ATI HD 3200 HDMI Display strange issue + coax sound issue (ASUS M3A-H MB)

Hi, I have just setup a media centre with a ASUS M3A-H HDMI MB. I have 2 issues which I have no idea how to fix (latest drivers are installed and catalyst 8.6).

1. If I turn the pc on with the tv set to the HDMI input it displays fine, however if I change the tv to any other input, then change back to hdmi (pc), its a blank screen... (its not the tv cause I've tested it with a PS3 and the pc isnt asleep of anything because I have vnc into it and use it fine - just wont display)

2. The coax sound output on the board wont pass any signal. As the pc is booting my amp detects the port, but once windows takes over no signal. The drivers are installed and the sound is set to the AC97 ports.

Two very weird things that I have spent hours trying to sort out.... Anyone have any suggestions...

Thanks guys

Did you find a solution to this? I'm having exactly the same problem with my Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H board and Sony Bravia TV. The HDMI connection works perfectly until I switch inputs, then I get nothing but a blank screen when I switch back.

This is very frustrating as it makes my HTPC effectively useless unless I go back to using a DVI-to-HDMI connector, which means no 5.1 audio. If anyone has a solution I'd love to hear it!

Re: ATI HD 3200 HDMI Display strange issue + coax sound issue (ASUS M3A-H MB)

I have an Saphire Ultimate 3850 and that did a similar thing with my Bravia 40". If I turned TV off or computer went to sleep or changed inputs and came back to HDMI input there was no display. I loaded the latest ATI drivers (Catalyst 8.7 i think) and AVIVO codec and the hydravision side of things and now it works fine if I change inputs but still has no display if the TV has been off for some time then I just change inputs to VGA and back to HDMI again and it works. bit annoying but yeh.

Catalyst 8.8 is supposed to fix the display issue.

Sound will only come from the default sound device as seleected in Windows control panel.

Re: ATI HD 3200 HDMI Display strange issue + coax sound issue (ASUS M3A-H MB)

This is probably a bit late but I have been using a ATI ASUS 4670 card and have had great difficulties setting it up. The picture quality is fantastic, much better than my previous video card a XFX Nvidia 7900gt , but the setting up is diabolical by comparison. The output keeps wanting to default to the HDMI output rather than the DVI which gives a clearer picture. In the Catalyst Control Centre (8.9 drivers) it kept reporting the TV as having 1980x1080 resolution whereas the maximum resolution of the 32" Sony X series LCD TV is 1360x768.

For quite awhile the computer would boot with the DVI output selected and I would get a blank screen but could hear the Windows logon sound and I knew the PC was operating okay. I grabbed a HDMI cable and switched inputs and could see the desktop.

I read elsewhere in the forum that there is an issue with the HDMI from the GA MA78GM-S2H motherboard and Sony LCD TVs, and I guess I may have a similar issue with the HD 4670.

To get a stable picture I had to reduce the resolution to 1280x720 and switch off automatically find monitor EDID. I could leave the 'maximum monitor resolution' pulldown at 1360x768, but had to set the resolution in the monitor section of Catalyst- where the monitor icons are- to 1280x720 (from memory- hope it is right). Any resolution over this would give a blank screen on the DVI. I suspect it has something to do with HDTV, EDID from the Sony TV, scaling and driver bugs. I seem to always have problems with ATI software.

Another contributing factor is that I probably don't have a complete understanding of how everything goes together (codecs, drivers, software, EDID, bios, etc ), but the above seems to work. Hopes this may help someone.
