Re: ATI HD3650 no sound via DVI to HDMI

I have the same TV, but 9600GT Sonic, with native HDMI out. I had to disable on-board video and install drivers from Palit for sound card on video board. It worked fine and I could hear a glorious stereo sound from my TV or get a 5.1 sound from optical out - on-board of my Video card.
It was fun, so I have installed latest NVidia drivers and got rid of sound driver on video card. Back to spdif from mobo to my amp.

Try to install drivers which came with your ATI.

Re: ATI HD3650 no sound via DVI to HDMI

i noticed on the back of my tv next to the hdmi input there 2 inputs for audio (red and white)

i have a RCA cable with a audio jack on the other end so iam thinking of pluging that into my onboard sound

should work?

Re: ATI HD3650 no sound via DVI to HDMI

The cable should be small plug (like you will put into your iPod) from one side and bigger red and white from the other side.
Plug small one to your mobo green audio-out, and red/white to your TV.

That is how I am technical with sound cables

Re: ATI HD3650 no sound via DVI to HDMI

I had the same card and audio did not work over HDMI due to the dongle. Solved by getting a Palit HD3850 with onboard HDMI.

You shouldn't need to use the rca cables if hdmi audio is working.

Re: ATI HD3650 no sound via DVI to HDMI

Just a note Richie

Even if you get audio out of your PC on DVI/HDMI it wont work running into your Sony TV when playing anything Dolby Digital (All DVD's and most TV) as the TV cannot decode the DD signal, and It seems there is no fix at the PC end

EDIT: found fault
I go to controlpanel->sounds-> and under playback tab there are 3 playback devices.
1) Headphones - (front jack i presume)
2) Speakers - Analogue out of rear, setup option allows downconvert DVD to 2 channel Test on this gives correct sound out and DD sources work on this.
3) Digital Output Device(SPDIF) - this has no setup option, but a test gives sound to TV via HDMI
then I saw properties and in that there was check boxes asking what receiver was able to decode.
It had Dolby DTS checked.
I unchecked it and retried playing a DVD
hey presto - fixed.
