Gigabyte Geforce 8400GS VS Gigabyte Radeon HD 2400 XT

just wondering how these 2 cards stack up against some of the higher end cards. i have had a look through alot of peoples profiles and have found that most of you guys are running these types of cards, especially on large panel displays and HD/Bluray playback. i just wanted to get some feedback of picture and resolution quality and if any one could recommend maybe a better card.

I'm running the Gigabyte 8400GT (not GS) and I have had no trouble with my 50in Plasma running 1080p

Re: Gigabyte Geforce 8400GS VS Gigabyte Radeon HD 2400 XT

Hi eclipz,

I started my HTPC journey using onboard ATI (X1250) graphics. Picture was very very good, however it did not properly de-interlace HDTV (1080i). My output resolution is 720p. It seemed to always use a bob de-interlacer which made static images shaky. I was very happy with picture quality for SD material and the ATI catalyst control center (user interface) is very good. So I decided to buy an ATI HD2400XT graphics card to fix the HD bob issue. This card did not fix the issue and actually introduced a stutter into the video every 30sec to 2min.

So I returned the ATI and got an Nvidia 2600XT. Fantasic. This card does perfect HDTV. IMHO the user interface is not as good as the ATI but at the end of the day we buy these cards for video.

I've also tried the Nvidia decoder and on my system it is about 7/10 where the microsoft one is 10/10.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Gaz

Yes. Nvidia 8600GT. I think my HTPC has scrambled my brain.

Thanks for clearing that up logifuse.

Cheers
