Anyone got HD working with M2A-VM HDMI (ATI x1250)

Hi,

I am having no luck getting my ASUS M2A-VM HDMI to play HD channels. Looking around there seams to be a fair few issues with this MOBO and HD and the version of Catalyst driver.

When I try to view HD channels all I get is an application error.

Can anyone who has their MOBO working with HD confirm which drivers they are using or give some advice.

Thanks,

Re: Anyone got HD working with M2A-VM HDMI (ATI x1250)

i have the same board and am using CCC 7.8 with driver version 8.401. Its an older version but is working perfectly for me so i haven't updated yet. it does seem to recognize the x1250 as x1200 but it works ok.
Might update soon to see if i can get 1080 working properly without "tearing"

Hi Blinken,

Thanks for the post.
I am a little confused as i thought the current driver was 8.2? Are you sure that your version is 8.401?

Re: Anyone got HD working with M2A-VM HDMI (ATI x1250)

At the end of this thread (2nd MCE PC) there is some a link to the asus website recommending some "fixes" to this problem.

Due to the fact i stuffed up my M2A-VM HDMI with all the constant shuffling of kit to get this working I can't try any of them

My M2N-MX Se and a 7300gt are working fine and the first rule of HTPC's is dont fix what aint broke

You guys feel free though, my M2A-VM HDMI got rma-ed and is currently sitting in my cupboard. If this problem gets resolved I may resurrect it!!!

Re: Anyone got HD working with M2A-VM HDMI (ATI x1250)

the latest CCC is 8.2 i think but the only one which had a definite driver version was 8.1 which had a release at the end of January with a display driver version 8.451.
hope this helps

Re: Anyone got HD working with M2A-VM HDMI (ATI x1250)

Hi guys,

I tried the new drivers today and ...... it made no difference.
I guess that this means that i am in the market for a fanless graphics card. Any suggestions.

F.

There is some talk that overclocking the chipset can help as other motherboards with the same chipset (but slightly overclocked) don't have this HD playback issue. (Any views on this)

Anyone keen to try this ??? (http://www.legitreviews.com/article/468/1/)

Re: Anyone got HD working with M2A-VM HDMI (ATI x1250)

Fraggle, I've been using this motherboard for a couple of months and HD works fine for me. I've had installed Catalyst Contol Centre 7.11, 7.12, 8.1 and 8.2 and they have all worked.

Initially I had a problem with a green screen for HD channels (This is a general media centre issue i think) but this was fixed by installing the Microsoft Hotfix (available in downloads section).

I also have a dual display setup (VGA and HDMI).

So I think the board works and is a great value HTPC board. Maybe you should try and check some of your other hardware or OS settings before spending money on a video card

Cheers

Re: Anyone got HD working with M2A-VM HDMI (ATI x1250)

One thing to check with x1250 chipset is how much memory is assigned to the graphics. With my Abit FI90HD mobo (which also use the x1250 chipset) the UMA Frame Buffer in the BIOS was set by default to 64MB. This caused some playback issues with HD. Changing it to 256MB solved the problems. So check what yours is set to.
