Post Ten/Seven HD 5.1

Does Ten/Seven HD Broadcast in 5.1 signal? It must because of this issue I have.

I flicked over to LOST on Seven late night and it must have been transmitting on 5.1 signal. The problem I have is that all the background noise, raid, helicopters, music etc... was all at the right volume only the Voices of the characters was coming through as a fine whisper.

Did anyone else have this problem with this program or any other 5.1 broadcast? I am using a crappy old Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 I am pretty sure and it seems to work fine for everything else invluding most other HD shows.

Anything you can suggest I do?

Cheers

Re: Ten/Seven HD 5.1

I had the same problem - everything very quite in the centre speaker, though expolsions etc used other speakers. Unfortunately the adverts in between came through loud and clear in all my speakers!

I pump the sound direct from my motherboard using coax into a Yamaha home theatre amp (which decodes the 5.1). Usually I have no problems with this setup.

Re: Ten/Seven HD 5.1

Looks like it could have been a Channel 7 problem then.... lets hope anyway.

Anyone else have the same problem?

Re: Ten/Seven HD 5.1

For the record my receiver tells me what type of audio signal it is getting for any given program. From what I have seen about 95% of all HD broadcasts use DD2.0 audio rather than DD5.1

Re: Ten/Seven HD 5.1

That's good to know, although I think Lost on Seven HD slots into the 5% where it is 5.1 because I switched over to Standard Channel 7 and sound was perfect.

I've actually noticed a lot more 5.1 though these days. WIN had a show on yesterday that was 5.1 and Prime Southern had Lost in 5.1 (didn't exhibit the same issues as described above though).

There are definitely some regular programs in 5.1 and I think I have noticed that 9HD tends to use it more than the others although I haven't actually done any particular test or logging to be sure of that.

Was your amp decoding to 5.1 or perhaps just to DD2?

I have the same setup as you and the sound from Lost on 7HD last night was still all wrong. Channel 7 was fine so I watched it there instead.
