ATI Drivers not compatible

I have just installed an ATI 9550 card to replace an Nvidia 6200. I uninstalled the Nvidia driver in add and remove programs and then installed the latest Catalyst MCE drivers but when I tried to start MCE 2005 it tells me the driver is not compatible with MCE. I then uninstalled those drivers and tried the 7.1 driver from January 2007 and that worked. What I would like to know is what is the latest ATI driver that is compatible with MCE what have you tried and found successful. Also is there a chance I have overlooked somthing that is causing this?

Oberg.

Did you go to the ATI/AMD site and use the search facility to find the right driver for the card and OS?

Re: ATI Drivers not compatible

I see there's some fine print there (link) on that site about compatible drivers for MCE, might pay to snoop about in there?

Re: ATI Drivers not compatible

I went to the ATI/AMD site and got the recommended driver, that's why I am surprised they weren't compatible. I'll have another look at the fine print you mentioned.

Re: ATI Drivers not compatible

It just seems to be blurb about supported cards (which includes yours)

you may have found something with their latest release driver (16/1/08)

Re: ATI Drivers not compatible

I'm going to try some of their archived drivers to see which ones are compatible and which are not, I'll report my findings.

Re: ATI Drivers not compatible

OK here's what I've found after trying the archived ATI drivers, only 7.8 and earlier drivers worked under MCE 2005, 7.9 and later (including the latest 8.1) were incompatible. This is a bit disappointing to say the least, especially when they are supposed to be the latest drivers for MCE.
