that old edid dvi hdmi blank display handshake problem

Hi All,
I know this is an old issue but I am not sure if anyone has found a workaround. My problem has come up when I installed an HDMI switch into my system to use the new ps3. If I am at the desktop and switch to the ps3 input I here the "bong" as the system unloads the plasma as a display. If I go back to the HDMI input from MCE the display is blank. I can access the desktop via component and switch it back to the Plasma and all is back to normal. Strangely enough this doesn't occur when I am in MCE watching TV as it doesn't unload the Plasma when switching the HDMI switch. Somehow I need to do what MCE is doing and not allow the system to drop the Plasma as a display. Arkay are you out there?
cheers,
Anthony

Re: that old edid dvi hdmi blank display handshake problem

An update!
I found disabling the nvidia service means I can switch back and forth from the desktop of MCE to the PS3 using the switch (no boing this time). However if it comes out of standby then there is no way I can get a picture back unless I reboot!

This is the only solution I know of:

http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1378

It used to be available in Australia From a mob calle Lindy Australia, but it seems to have fallen off their website.

Aside from that, you'll have to do what I do. Leave the media centre on 24x7.

Re: that old edid dvi hdmi blank display handshake problem

Thanks GlenR,
The only other solution I can think of (apart from leaving it on 24/7! with the nvidia service disabled) is leaving the nvidia service running and finding some automatic way of it changing the display back from single display component to single display plasma when it detects the display has re-connected. I am using the latest nvidia drivers and control panel. Any ideas? Strangely this wasn't an issue with the plasma as the only connection as I think it transmits the edid in standby mode.
thanks,
Anthony

I am actually using this device and it is an excellent solution for those with EDID handshake problems. On a side note, I had some trouble getting proper widescreen mode working (as my 'widescreen' LCD TV's native is 1024 x 768 - go figure) so I went over to my friend who had a native 1366 x 768 panel and saved his EDID handshake to the box. After doing that, the device works a treat and I can turn the monitor off an on as much as I want as well as having the correct aspect ratio.

Getting this little box is much cheaper than upgrading to a new monitor I seem to remember that when I went to the Gefen site in the US, the box was available. You just have to give Lindy Australia a phone call. They had them in stock when I ordered but just not up on the website.

I am actually having pretty good success with just the nvidia service disabled and the latest nvidia drivers. Has anyone else tried this method?
