Thumbs up Purevideo revisited

Hi All

Thought I would pass on my observations from today. Find myself with a bit of time to myself at mo so thought I would see if nvidia have improved on their purevideo codec since I last tried it.

I`ve been using powerdvd7 for as long as I can remember due to purevideo having chronic stuttering on HD. Well what can I say but WOW....using the latest drivers ( 163.75 ) everything looks great and audio set up fine - 5.1 / DTS wherever available playing fine on tv/dvd`s etc.

Its early days I know but so far so good - I`ll report back if anything untoward starts going on . Might be time to give this another try all you doubters

dude.... I seriously take my hat off to you....

I would rather poke my eye out with a blunt pencil than waste my time with Purevideo.

It is widely acknowledged as the best decoder with the worst performance....

I too have been on the PowerDVD7 band wagon, but now thanx to this post, you've got me curious.... I hate you ... !!

Re: Purevideo revisited

Hey andczo

ye i know what you mean

gotta say though its performing really well at the moment - been 24 hours now using it and its never skipped at all!

I think the picture is sharper than the powerdvd7 codec - tried messing around with the options but have left it on the default settings ( using smart de-interlacing etc)

don`t forget - make a back up image before tinkering

Just out of curiosity, what version of driver are you using. I've found 91.31 is the best so far with my system BUT with that said, I haven't mucked around with this stuff for about a year and alot could have and should have changed (improved) since then...

Re: Purevideo revisited

Before I did this experiment i was using 94.74 I think - was the last one I could use without all sorts of strange things happening. I bit the bullet and installed the latest ones with the purevideo decoder...163.75 if i`m not mistaken.

whenever I tried installing 100.xx + forceware versions previously my system would just be a nightmare....

Re: Purevideo revisited

Hi

It was going to be a slow holiday - time to break the media centre....

What version of Purevideo are you running? I am using
1.02-223_purevideo_decoder_retail

If you have a newer version, do you have the link for it. I was browsing Nvidia's site this morning, and could not see anything newer.

Cheers
Lemon

How does it do when you change to either of the progressive scan channels (ABC HD or SBS HD)? I've never seen Purevideo able to decode them perfectly with the de-interlace setting on automatic or smart - you need to change to film specfically for them, otherwise they jerk.

I'm using an 8500GT with the latest beta (169.21) & I still get the above.

It seems fine on my system - haven`t had to tweak anything

Re: Purevideo revisited

Hey Leigh

If your using the latest nvidia drivers theres an option to adjust for lip sync issues - I`m sure you know but just thought I`d mention it.

Mind if its only happening on one channel you might be stuffed
