HD resolution issue

Hi

I have just brought a samsung 46in Full HD LCDTV - the prob I'm having is my Media PC running MCE2005 the desktop res is set to 1920 x 1080 but when I go into live tv the picture looks squashed (e.g the channel 10 icon is ovalish not circular)

If I use the built in HD tuner the picture is perfect

I'm using a radeon X800 video card in the PC and it's connected via VGA video cable to the tv (couldnt get the tv to work with a dvi to hdmi cable)

The desktop res is definately 1920 x 1080 but it seems that the live tv MCE is not outputing in that res - I am using a Nova T500 dual tuner HDTV card

Does anyone know how to fix this? - pls let me know - thanks

Re: HD resolution issue

Have you changed the aspect ratio by using the info button & scrolling through the zoom settings? Zoom 1 sould be correct for 16:9 content.

Re: HD resolution issue

Hey Guys,

I have gone the same way. LG 47" 1080P. Out of curiosity what zoom setting are you using in MCE. Also I fnd the only ratio setting that will work on the LCD is 1:1 pixel mapping but I find MCE seems to want to reset that to "Auto" .
any ideas as to why?

Thanks

It's strange that you were using Zoom 3 with a 720p display, as that is also a 16:9 aspect, so you should have been using Zoom 1. Perhaps you hadn't set the aspect correctly in the VMC TV setup dialog.

Percul8or - if you have a 16:9 screen (of any resolution), you should almost always use a zoom level of 1 - the other levels are for use with non-anamorphic DVDs (very rare) or if you need to zoom in 4:3 content to fill the 16:9 screen (thus losing the top & bottom of the image, or distorting the picture).
