HD sound on ASUS

Hi

I am having problems with HD sound on my ASUS A7Jc. I get a picture in HD but no sound at all. SD works fine (both video and audio) but nothing in HD.

I ahve tried updating to AC3 drivers and ffdshow but the system totally shat itself and I have to reload the default ones to get anything in higher resolution than about 400x100.

I am using an optical output from the notebook to a yamaha amp. The same connector works fine for SD but nothing for HD.

Settings are on SPDIF in the MCE DVD menu (and this works) and for 5.1 in the sound devices menu in the computer.

The only otehr thing is that I am assuming that the signal strength is weak as the picture drops out saying No TV signal about every 20 seconds. I havent bothered with an antenna booster yet because there is no point when I dont have sound anyway. Could this be the problem?

Please help WAF is dropping...

Re: HD sound on ASUS

Do you hear sounds from all of the speakers when you do the 'setup your speakers' and then 'test' in MCE? I had the same problem also. Had to play around in there for a while until they all worked.

Unhappy Re: HD sound on ASUS

I am having exactly the same issue on my Asus A8V-E Deluxe board.
DVD (i.e. AC3) and everything else plays fine except the Australian HD channels.

My tv tuner card is a twinhan and i'm using the inbuilt Asus audio (optical out). Strangely i do get HD sound through the twinhan tv app (not the MCE interface).

Interested if anyone has ideas here!
