Question Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3100 onboard graphics

What do you guys think of the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3100 onboard graphics subsystem with Intel® Clear Video Technology integrated into G33, Q33 intel chipsets?

I have been researching this and it was not compatible with custom screen resolutions and Blu-ray and HDDVD content currently but should have an updated driver sometime next year. For those who are running a G33 chipset with a big TV I'd like to know what your experiences are.

The biggest problem with it at the moment the way I see it is that its acceleration capability is not fully supported yet by the main applications: PowerDVD etc.

I think when everyone finishes engineering for it (and they are all working on it), we'll have a very intriguing option. The performance out of the box surprised me, and it can only get better.

Intel's software for integrated graphics has always been simple and stable, if they made one that did 720p and 1080i/p well without overscan who needs custom resolutions and stuff?

How can you get custom resolutions with this graphics chip? Is it possible to fit to your 1080p TV?

I've had no luck so far getting custom resolutions from it, but if your screen supports standard resolutions (1920x1080, 1280x720 etc), it looks great. Haven't tried it with BluRay but for normal HDTV it's very good indeed.

But I'd still go a separate video card anyday, just more flexibility...

Cheers

Hi Guys,

It is possible to set custom resolutions with the Intel Graphics. It's just not a straight forward process (or at least wasn't until now).

The Drivers support something called DTD's (Detailed Timing Descriptors) which you can added to the registry to provide up to five custom resolutions. Once mastered it's a very powerful feature.

I've recently been working with a guy called Archibael (the man that originally brought this to the attention of the community) and a very clever software developer to produce a utility to make the whole thing much easier to do.

Have a look at http://isnwiki.jot.com/WikiHome/Articles/111111431 for background information and http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=947830 for instructions on where to get (and how to use) the DTD Calc utility.

Hope this helps.
