DVR-MS/Avi file merge

When recording consecutive programs (single tuner) often the last bit of the first show appears in the first part of the second file.

Using something like DVREDit, I can 'cut' the first bit out & save, but how are people 'joining/merging' the 2 files? (and is it best to join them as dvrms prior to conversion to avi??).

Re: DVR-MS/Avi file merge

I use Video Redo to join movie files, generally as mpegs.

I always do this before using MCE buddy to convert to .avi compressed files.

Cheers,

KH

Cheers KH - any 'freeware' out there that people are using and find OK?

Re: DVR-MS/Avi file merge

Hi Slug,

I tried DCUT from the net, and the light versions of Sonic that came with my computer; but nothing really worked well until I found out about VideoRedo from this forum. I don't part too easily with my money for programs over the net, but videoredo has been worth every penny, IMHO. And you can try it out for 15 days, before you part with your cash. You can't really lose anything by trying.

I'm not a salesman for their company, but I have been happy with this program.

King Hilary.

Re: DVR-MS/Avi file merge

VideoReDo is good with formats but I don't like the interface as much as TMPGEnc. The newer versions handle dvr-ms just fine (as input anyway, not sure about output). Their MPEG Editor is great for just smartrendering an mpg output, if you want the entire world of output options, then you need the XPress version. All these programs have demo's that allow you to try them for free. If you really don't want to spend money, then perhaps PM me.

For encoding to avi, I don't know about this MCEbuddy thing ppl are talking about, but BY FAR the best 'easy' program for this is AutoGK (it's freeware). Give it a whirl and see how you like it.

Re: DVR-MS/Avi file merge

After downloading & playing around with VideoRedo, I found it a bit 'clunky' for my purposes.

I have a movie recorded from FTA TV that is segmented into 3 separate files (don't ask!!) - when joining the files using VideoRedo, the merged output file was completely screwed up with large chunks missing.

The correct answer (for me anyway) to my original post is actually DVREdit (I wasn't aware that it could join files).

I have found that both top & tailing, and joining files in DVREDit is MUCH easier than VideoRedo - the interface is much more simplistic & I find that it works a treat.
