VideoReDo - Small amount of video trash

I have been meaning to ask this for some time...

I use VideoReDo mostly to cut classic video tracks out of shows.

I notice that after doing the Select Start, Select End, Trim Unselected, Save As xxxx.mpg
that on playback through VMC I always have one line of white speckles at the bottom of the playback. They do flicker, and are always there in every cut I make. It's almost as if the last line of the frame isn't being completely generated. It loos like this (snipped from the bottom of the frame :

Anyone know some setting in VideoReDo that will stop them from appearing?

Oz

That's really odd, Oz. I do pretty much the same thing as you and I've never seen this problem.

I'll take a closer look...

Re: VideoReDo - Small amount of video trash

It looks like the wide screen signalling data you see on channel 10 when using a STB letterboxed on a 4:3 TV (you also see it in other TV card apps - DVBViewer for example).

I suspect that MCE/VMC actually masks it in DVR-MS as it's expecting it to be there (knowing that it's a broadcast derived signal), but it doesn't mask it in MPG as it's not expecting it.

I also assume you're running with no overscan (even in MCE/VMC)?

Re: VideoReDo - Small amount of video trash

Hi Oz,

I have just checked both HD and SD mpgs made from recorded TV files and I don't have those lines. I am using MCE 2005.

Here's a screen cap of a black transitions screen from 10SD - is it the same?

Looks like it to me....notice how it kind of disappears off to the right, just as mine does.
And yes, no overscan.

Well, that was from a 10SD recording that's still in DVR-MS.

Are you sure that you're seeing this on non 10SD source material?

Re: VideoReDo - Small amount of video trash

OK. It's just the 10SD widescreen signalling data (as outlined in my 1st post). No fault of VRD, it just doesn't get masked in MCE/VMC when it's in an MPG (while it does in DVR-MS).

i.e. it's present in the DVR-MS, you just don't see it.during playback. Play a DVR-MS from 10SD back in WMP & you'll see it.

Re: VideoReDo - Small amount of video trash

Justin,
Fair enough. Are there any VideoReDo settings I could adjust to get rid of it?

I know there are probably VideoReDo forums but wouls rather rely on advice from people that have a track record of knowing what they are talking about than a bunch of "strangers"

Oz
