I installed the ffdshow codecs in order to work better with MCEBuddy (reccomended by them) All if well and it plays DivX's like it always has with one problem.
Often while skipping through a DivX or even FF through a Recorded TV Show, It will make a loud POP from the speakers and Sound will go off. If you continue to watch, all you will hear are a series or loud popping in no particular order/sequence from the speakers.
I could go back to the usual KLite codec pack i usually use (which it was working fine with), but will MCEBuddy still compress in that h.234 (or something) format as it is brilliant quality and REALLY quite incredible compression.

I never use a 3rd party decoder for audio, only video. Try turning of any FFDShow audio decoding and see if that fixes the problem.
I am a bit nieve when it comes to Codecs, I usually just install them and let it go. Where do you go to config or add/remove codes or select them for use etc....
The easiest way is just to uninstall ffdshow and then reinstall. Then on the 4th (?) screen of the installer it will ask what video/audio types to decode. Uncheck all the audio ones and then continue.

I'm not in front of my MCE right now but if you go to the start menu and find the FFDShow menu there should be a place there where you can configure it. Ordinarily it's just a matter of unticking all of the formats in the audio section. Believe me it's not rocket science, you'll work it out.
While I have people watching this post, I also have another little problem where when watching a DivX, sometimes when I want to SKIP forward or backwards, it will pause for like 40 seconds while it thinks about it. Then it will eventually appear.
This happened to you?
I also think I really need to update my PC, runing XP Mce on a very early P4 and the C:\ is running on a crappy OLD IDE 80Gb HDD which is probably half dead.
It is most likely a hardware issue but in case it's software I thought I would ask. One other thing that makes me think it is hardware is when I am trying to do the DivX Skipping while recording a TV Show it takes twice as long to skip and it also puts big chunks of skipped footage into the recorded video.

No I haven't seen that problem but as you say, it's possibly a hardware issue. If your hard disk is slow and you've got only 1 Gb of RAM and you are running only a celeron processor I'd suggest you're right at the bottom of the requirements range for MCE anyway. My feeling is I would start by adding another Gb of RAM and see how it goes. If that doesn't help, try a new fast HDD for your OS and if it's still no good you might want to consider upgrading your mobo and processor. Of course it's equally important to check the condition of your OS envirenment (latest drivers, is it an old install? Is it due for a clean install?)
Good luck,
Yeah I am planning for an Upgrade sometime soon, will be a while off yet though can't afford it right atm. It's very strange this skipping problem as it only skips with Xvid's that I have created myself, most Xvid's I have downloaded work fine and Skip faster than lightning there not effecting my recordings.
I have checked the details Tab for the Xvid's I have downloaded and that I have created myself and cannot see much difference in Framerate, Resolution or anyone like that so I'm a little confused. I'll work it out eventually though
If anyone has had problems with any Xvid's they have created and resolved there own issues, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
