dvr-ms playback issues on windows xp pro

I am having some strange problem with playing back a recorded dvr-ms on my windows xp pro machine at work.

With almost an identical setting on my home pc it's playing back fine..

the issue is.. it looks ok.. but has a grey layer over the top - light grey coloured.. like the whole video is displayed with about 50% opacity...

anyone got any ideas?

i can put up a screenshot as well if that helps..
