Exclamation VMC with HD Tuner recording only at 480p

Hi there,

I'm troubled by the above issue.
All of my recordings are in SD NTSC format (704 x 480 @ 60Hz)!!!

I'm 100% confident it's not my tuner (DViCO Dual Express) as when I'm using software bundled with it, I'm able to grab transport stream in its natively broadcasted resolution (e.g. 1080i).

So now I'm wondering if I'm one of few unlucky (NOTE: there's similar post here which due to its age could not be replied to - hence why new thread) or maybe this is standard for VMC?

Can anyone here confirm the resolution of their dvr-ms recordings?
Can you get more than 420p?

Cheers,
P

PS
In case someone asks: I'm located in Melbourne, using above tuner, resolutions on my desktop and VMC are set to 1080i @50Hz connected via DVI-HDMI cable to plasma panel.

Run the recordings through VideoReDo & see what res it says that they are. I'd say it's just what they're tagged as, becuase DVB-T recordings aren't re-encoded.

Thanks Justin for your suggestion.

Sure can do that, however I got to the conclusion it’s 420p across all recordings after I (accidentally) recorded AFL final game last Friday from both SD and HD channels. Both files were approximately the same size (slightly over 14GB).
If the resolution would differ then the size would be much different as well.
And only then I started going through properties of all dvr-ms’es to find out they’re all in the same format.

Can anyone of you please confirm resolution of your recordings? Either based on metadata accessible through “Details” tab on properties of recordings or any other video editing tool i.e. VideoReDo?

Thanks,
P

Re: VMC with HD Tuner recording only at 480p

How long (in time) are the 14GB recordings? 10HD should be recording at around 5GB per hour (just under) & 10SD should be 2.6GB per hour. If they're 3 hours, you've some how managed to record 2 x 10HD.

Seriously, all recordings in MCE2005 are tagged incorrectly. 10SD are tagged as 8mb/s (really 6), SBS SD are tagged as 16 (really 5), etc. The tags are designed for analogue capture where you really can set the bit-rate of the MPEG2 encoding.
