analog capture huge

I'm using iuVCR to cap analog tuner in Vista (not in VMC).
I used the lagarith codec to get as lossless cap as possible (dont have exact settings in front of me), but the footy cap came out to 40 Gig !! Now, why would that be so huge an analog capture whose quality still aint great, while dvr-ms captures of HD channel in VMC are around 10 Gig ??
Obviously both are comparable footy matches ...

weird to me... but then i dont 100% understand the technicals of capping codecs etc
