converting DivX / Xvid to MPG for 360 extender with FFDshow

Morning All,

I am trying to configure FFDshow to give the best results when converting season 18 of the simpsons from Xvid to WMV, for replay over a 360 extender.

I am using winAVI video converter. When converting, the FFDshow audio and video converter icons appeared in the bottom right-hand icon tray. However, after some basic mucking around with the settings, I am unable to get any real improvement in picture quality.

I am primarily hoping to improve the resolution of the video and do some blur reduction - as (I suspect) the original conversion to Xvid was done at a poor resolution - I can see the hoizontal lines on my PC, which will only appear worse when I stream it to the plasma.

Am I correct in guessing it is the FFSshow "encoding" options that I need to adjust here, not the "decoding" part ? I dont want to use transcode or anything similar as a way around this, the PC most likely doesnt have enough horsepower.

If anyone could give some advice for using FFDshow as part of the conversion process, it would be greatly appreciated.

ta.

pps - is there a way to remove the xvid codec and re-encode it with 360-friendly MPPEG2 codecs ? or is it a waste of time, better off with WMV ?

Hey mate,

Save yourself the hassle and just download trascode360 or Orb, this way you wont need to convert your shows to watch them with the 360 (extender), i use transcode360 and cant praise it enough, ive yet to have any dramas with it.

If you must use convert though download an app called Videora, there is an Xbox360 conversion option in it, it will convert to MPEG2.
