Question DVR-MS to Web help

Hi guys,

I have a mate who will be on the news tonight talking about his new website, and he has asked if I can record the snippet and convert/edit it so that he can post it on the site.

I know very little about web site stuff, you know what us basement dwelling system administrators think of those 2nd floor web-dev types, and doing a few searches on the site came up with so many options I'm more confused now than when I started.

Can someone suggest a dead simple, preferably free app that I can use to take my DVR-MS file, chop out the bit I want and convert it to a small AVI (or whatever format you guys recommend for web viewing).

It can be XP, Vista or even Mac.

Cheers, Shan.

Re: DVR-MS to Web help

Essentially free for a one off type application (ie short term use) if you were to download a trial version of Ulead Video Studio and do it all in there. Possibly a bit of mucking around if you haven't used it before and not likely to again in the future.

Alternative might be something like VideoRedo to edit file down to what you want and then run Crunchie (see downloads on this forum) to convert to AVI. It lets you specify bit rate etc so you could run it a few times over the DVR-MS file to get a few different sizes/quality options.

Also if you already have a full blown Nero you might be able to use the editing software in this to do it.

Either way, record the show and make a copy of the DVR-MS file to fiddle around with first.

Edit: For the record I'm not a web-dev (or any other IT) type, but this should be a few options for what you want to do.

If you decide to try Video Studio, I have found it doesn't like dvr-ms files despite what they say. You will have to use VideoReDo or similar to cnvert to mpeg first. That done Video Studio will drop down to web size fairly easilyb (there is a default setting to do this).

Beware of copyright though. Make sure your mate has agreement from the broadcaster to publish the news item on his website. News is covered by copyright.
