Can XVid decode DivX?

I was under the impression that it could. When I installed the DivX codec (latest) then I couldn't play anything. I uninstalled it and then I could play my Xvid encoded stuff, but back to sound only in WMP11 and nothing at all in MCE for the once DivX file.

Any ideas?

Re: Can XVid decode DivX?

Hey there

I would just go for installing ffdshow which will cover all your needs - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/vi...rs/ffdshow.cfm

Regards

J

Re: Can XVid decode DivX?

As XviD is creating MPEG4-compliant video streams, you can play your movies encoded today with any MPEG4-compliant decoder (i.e. any future version of XviD, or other MPEG4 players).

found on Doom9's Forum

So it should play everything MPEG-4 related.

But I always use ffdshow myself, just be sure to deselect all audio filters !

Re: Can XVid decode DivX?

DivX Latest=Bloatware. I would recommend staying away from the later versions for basic playback.

Now, this may be WAY off the mark but I wonder if DivX DO NOT want to playback other formats, especially as its main rival also happens to be freeware.

If you have a previous image, I would go back to before you installed it (or use System Restore) & start again.

But if you love Divx & for further info, check out the master site for compressed video http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?f=56

Re: Can XVid decode DivX?

I found Vista Codec Pack does the job for me, mind due it has ffdshow and AC3Filter inside.
