Best Editor for Crunchie AVI (xVid)

First off, Crunchie is a top app and gets my vote .

Having converted from my UK MCE box DVB-T to Crunchie AVI, I'm looking for the best App to edit out the Ads etc to trim my recordings before making a DVD. I tried using Premier Pro and Vegas, but both will not accept the Crunchie's AVI format, which I believe is xVid format.

Has anyone found a good way of doing edits of Crunchie AVI's?

TIA

Re: Best Editor for Crunchie AVI (xVid)

Geordie,

Hmmm. Not quiet sure what you're trying to do here. If you are wanting to make DVD's from your recordings then there is no need to convert the dvr-ms files to avi format first.

You're actually doing twice the processing and losing a lot of quality to do that.

In essence what you are doing is:

1. Converting dvr-ms file to mpeg. (DVRMSToolbox does this).
2. Converting mpeg file to avi (xvid) (Crunchie does this).
3. Using some DVD app to convert back to mpeg format.
4. Cutting out ads and burning a DVD.

What you really want to do is this:

1. Convert dvr-ms to mpeg.
2. Remove ads.
3. Burn a DVD

You can do all this with VideoRedo, it can cut ads and convert to mpeg in one step. It will also even write out vob files for burning to DVD.

Crunchie is designed for people who keep their shows in avi format (burnt to a data DVD, not video DVD) for storage.

Hope that helps a litte

Cheers,

Arkay.

Thumbs up Re: Best Editor for Crunchie AVI (xVid)

Arkay,

Thanks for the pointers. Clearly, I didn't fully understand the DVRMSToolbox/Crunchie process

After hours of surfing I was just so chuffed to find find something that would deal with the MCE dvr-ms format, that I just followed the forum comments I picked up on, and downloaded both tools thinking they needed to be used together to get what I wanted

Your points are well taken, and your steer toward VideoReDo was right on target. I downloaded the trial, and it does exactly what I want, which is simply to strip the front and tail ends from a series of kids programmes I recorded for my grandson and to make a DVD of them.

Thanks again. I'm sure I'll also find a use for Crunchie now I know about it.

No worries

Geordie
