Question Burning DVD from within MCE

Hi all,

I have an HP m7390a that includes a burn Video CD/DVD option under MCE. I have found that it works well in burning a video file after the adverts are removed with VideoRedo. It will also compress a file to the right size for the DVD up to a point. If the movie is still to big, then I think I could still put it on two DVD's using VideoRedo again.

My question is: Is there any way to see the progress of the transcoding through MCE? As it stands, I get a message that says this may take a few hours, do you want to do other things in the meantime?

Otherwise, I am happy with this method of burning DVD's as it has worked well on movies that I could not burn with Ulead VideoStudio10 due to the developement of audio out-of-synch errors. Audio out-of-synch problem is the most common reason I am unhappy with a final burned DVD.

Cheers,

King Hilary

Re: Burning DVD from within MCE

OK then,

I have worked out the answer to my, now obviously stupid, question. If I go back into the create DVD program it will tell me how far it has progressed, (or is not progressing, as the case may be). Anyway, burning a longish movie over two DVDs has worked fine, and I am pleased with the output on the LCD TV.

Re: Burning DVD from within MCE

No I am stuck again.

Burning a DVD from within MCE has become unreliable. Now the process hangs up at about 35% completion. There is a process called sbeserver.exe that seems to be running and it does not close even after I close out of Media centre. I have to force it to close at shutdown. I get the little sbeserver "this program is not responding message"

Does anyone know what SBESERVER.exe does? I presume it is something to do with the sonic DVD burning software.

So far it has not been destroying the disc in the burner, but the burner does say in use by MCE even after MCE is closed.

Thanks in advance for any tidbits of information.

Re: Burning DVD from within MCE

Sorry, I can't help you with the burning side of things, but I have found that if I 'google' things like "SBESERVER" then I can often identify the culprit program(s).

I've done this after uninstalling things which has resulted in the little message windows poping up at start-up as they are always no help in actually telling you which program etc is having trouble with missing files.

I've only tried buring within MCE a couple of times. I noticed that MP3 albums burnt to a CD come out in proper 'CD' format and not as MP3 files, but when I have done a DVD of avi/mpeg files (ala crunchie output) then these were simply copied across to the disc. I've never actually tried burning an unprocessed recording (ie dvrms file) as I have crunchie automatically run each night and process anything more than a week old and just store it on the HDD. If I want to create a DVD from these avi/mpeg files I use the standard PC in the office and Ulead VideoStudio to do the editing chapters and menus.

I'm thinking that if I left the HTPC/MCE doing the conversion/transcoding then this would be a large load on the CPU while it does it's normal duties as a dedicated HTPC.

Plus using the wireless keyboard and mouse on the floor only four feet in front of the screen gives you a sore neck.

So can MCE transcode a DVRMS or AVI/MPEG files on to a disc in proper DVD disc format (ie audio_ts and video_ts directories etc) in it's stock format or do I need to do other things to have this functionality?

I never really fiddled with this side of things but I've got everything else ticking along now so I might have a look at this if you can point me in the right direction?

Thanks Msurge,

Yes MCE can, or at least it used to be able to do it for me. That is it used to be able to take a dvr-ms file and burn it to a DVD disc, so long as the video on the dvr-ms file was not more than about 50 minutes long.

I don't use this because most programs are a little longer than this with adverts so I like to remove the ads with Videoredo and then burn the mpeg on to DVD. MCE used to allow this, but recently has stopped working well.

I am hoping that I can still do this some other way, but I prefer to find out why when things that used to work don't.

Yes I did Google SBSSERVER, but basiccally got a lot of pages offering to clean sbsserver or otherwise scan my system, without actually telling me what the program does. I always try to stay away from pages like that.

Re: Burning DVD from within MCE

I have since found out that HP has an update site that lists available updates by computer model. I have downloaded the relevant updates for my computer, and now I am back to being able to burn direct through MCE.
