Hard drive being eaten alive by DVD movies...... Divx and mymovies

Hi there Folks,
I was thinking about backing up all my DVD movies to divx so that they dont take up so much pharking space on my hard drive. However I still want to be able to watch them via my xbox 360 in my bedroom.

Whats the deal here? will my movies still be able to find divx movies and if so how do I get them to play on my 360.

Cheers

download and install transcode 360. u dont need to compress your dvd's to divx. just rip them to the hdd. install "my movies". my movies will appear on the VMCE xbox once you navigate and select the movie. select "watch stream" and it will stream the dvd to the xbox.

same applies for divx files, select the "i" botton and "more" select "transcode"

Re: Hard drive being eaten alive by DVD movies...... Divx and mymovies

Thanks for the prompt respose tyronne27, but I think I should make my problem clearer.

I already have transcode 360 installed on my machine but I was looking at trying to take my ripped DVD movies off my hard drive (approx 6 GB each on average) and just leave a ripped divx copy (approx 1GB I guess) on my media centre so I could save some space.

Will mymovies still be able to see the divx movies after I take off the the DVD version ?? and will I still be able to watch them through my 360 ??

Transcode360 will be required to watch them on the Xbox360. The Xbox does not have a divx/xvid codec, which is why Transcode360 was written.

Basically it will encode them to MPEG2 on the fly so the Xbox360 can then decode the MPEG2 stream.

TMPGEnc will encode your DVD's to .wmv so they can be played on the 360 without the need to use Transcode360.

I understand what you are saying I think. You will prob have to rescan your library as if my understanding is correct your current library would search to cue up vob files eg Matrix.vob wheras now it needs to find in the matrix folder Matrix.avi

Re: Hard drive being eaten alive by DVD movies...... Divx and mymovies

Ok thanks for that guys, so what is the best divx rip software about out there, Something that will give me good compression with minimal loss of quality and prefereably will enable me to keep 5.1 surround sound ??

Thanks again

I'd use AutoGK...

Here's a guide, but it's pretty straight forward (mind you, I haven't done DVD encodes in a while).
