Can burn shows from some channels & not others

I've been happily burning Recorded TV to DVD for a while now with Nero 6.

It would appear I've only been burning shows from SBS or ABC2 because when I tried to burn a commercial network show the sound was just a series of squeaks & chirps. I then went through & tried to play files from all the networks & Channels 2, 7, 9 & 10 had the same problem whether played through Nero or Windows Media Player while everything from ABC2 & SBS played fine.

Any ideas of what is going on?

Andrew

Re: Can burn shows from some channels & not others

Andrew,

Guessing it is an audio codec issue - one that Nero doesn't have/support.

Can't see where you are - but the stations transmit audio in different formats. Some are digital and require AC3 or whatever decoding, others aren't. One of the 2,7,9, 10 group (can't remember which) isn't AC3 - so surprised about that.

Not sure what you are burning to (DVD in DVD format or as .avi's)- I had problems with Nero 6 and sound disappearing on some I was 'crunching' to .avi's for storage - so moved to VideoReDo and problems went.

Gibbo

Edit: Just checked - are you sure you can't burn 7 SD with sound? 2, 9 and 10 in Melb are digital (in SD), ABC Dig, SBS, 7 aren't (just judging by what they send to AMP via SPDIF). Not sure about 7 HD.

And I answer assuming you have a valid/legal reason to be burning them to some other media.

Re: Can burn shows from some channels & not others

Thanks Gibbo,

I'm in Sydney & simply clearing disk space of shows I haven't watch but want to (SBS & ABC2 have some great doco's)

Looks like I might have to try VideoReDo.

Cheers
Andrew

Re: Can burn shows from some channels & not others

Hi Andrew,

Know the storage problem well. If it isn't critical they are in DVD format (TS_ whatever) then VideoReDo to get them from dv-rms to mpeg, then Crunchie or whatever to get them down in size - then archive them onto DVD's as .avi's.

There are some free alternatives to VideoReDo - but they had problems with audio encoding as well.

Let us know how you get on - and good luck.

Gibbo
