Crunchie - 1st encode problem

Just used crunchie to encode an mpeg (created by video redo) and for the first time it didn't work right - the video for some reason came out in almost slow-mo, while the audio was normal ??
The only thing that was different this time is its the biggest one i've done - about 7Gig mpeg as opposed to what i've been doing for a while about 3Gig ...

Any ideas why this might have come out this way ?

Re: Crunchie - 1st encode problem

Only one. With the larger the size of a file the more risk is involved in terms on corrupted mpeg2 structure. It doesn't happen very often but occasionally errors in the mpeg structure can cause faults.

The only thing I would suggest is to run the mpeg through something like projectx in order to correct any problems with the source mpeg then try to convert it again.

Be interested to hear if you sort it out. It's not a size issue. I know of conversions as big as 21GB that had no problems.

Cheers,

Arkay.

arkay - funny thing is that the mpeg is in perfect condition - the mpeg was created from video redo from the original ts source (my own recording).
So i've checked and re-checked the mpeg and i cannot see any issues scanning through the file - in perfect sync also.

Thx

Re: Crunchie - 1st encode problem

Checked and recheck with what though? I don't know what video redo does with fixing bad files and I know often the mpegs play fine with perfect sync etc but they can still have problems. ProjectX can correct the GOP structure (I don't know whether video redo does or not). That's the only thing I can think of that might send mencoder into a spin. It's usually very resilient.

The only other option you'd have is to try and convert it with something like AutoGK and see how it goes there?

Cheers,

Arkay.

Yes, that is one of the many things it does.

If weird long GOPs are causing the problem in this case, one possible thing to try is to limit the GOP frame length in the VideoReDo output file using the output options button on the Save As dialog.

Re: Crunchie - 1st encode problem

I was able to get a decent encode using autogk in the end - with the same mpeg from videoredo (?) - but still would like to test again, why crunchie failed on this occasion because i would like to start using crunchie as a nightly service...

Re: Crunchie - 1st encode problem

I'd say it'll be a one off thing, problems are usually few and far between.

Keep me posted.

Cheers,

Arkay.
