DVB-S Tuners and "TV Pack"

Has anyone had any success getting DVB-S tuners to work in TV Pack? I would be interested in hearing any experiences good/bad. What is the issue generally with CI modules and VMC? Can EPG info be picked up in the data stream as per stand-alone receivers? Like everyone else I suppose I am wishing for a seamless VMC experience, perhaps naively. Cheers.

Not with a Twinhan 1034 with Irdeto CI module + Select TV Subscription.

No signal detected during TV setup, works fine in other software. I'm waiting for the DVBSBridge update for TV Pack. Hopefully they'll expose a DVB-S interface and another program can handle the tuning/decryption.

SelectTv seems to roll their keys fairly quickly so if the computer is in S3 sleep I don't think it will get the updated encryption keys. I'm not sure if any of the external USB devices might be better at keeping the LNB powered and keeping keys updated. The FloppyDTV and FireDTV seem to be the most popular cards/devices at TheGreenButton. There are some guys in NZ doing Freeview...

Re: DVB-S Tuners and "TV Pack"

Thanks. I think I saw your comments in another thread which originally prompted my question. I am currently running Selectv through a stand alone reciever with a crappy RCA connection to an analogue input in my 1080p LCD. Would love to have it in native digital through VMC. Also for FTA on a motorised dish.

I've been thinking about a few options. I could leave the CAM and card in the receiver and piggy-back a DVB-S PCI card off it. I'm not sure if the output is decrypted though? I am still new to this. I had read that Fiji supported DVB-S and multiple tuners. Is this not the case? Many questions. How much power does the LNB draw off the PSU? I think I am only running a 460W. If its piggy-backed would the power come from the reciever or the PCI card? I dont do S3. Too hard, and my HTPC doubles as a back up server for home/business network in the wee hours. Updates not a problem.

Re: DVB-S Tuners and "TV Pack"

Unless I have totally missed something! ...There is no native CI support in Vista MCE, TV Pack or no. Other apps yes, but not VMCE.

I have had the fireDTV, and yes it works with CI in VMCE(I have a setanta standalone subscription - same non NDS Irdeto2 encryption as SelecTV). But, it is important to note, that like other cards, CI was working in VMCE by the tuner was masquerading as a DVBT tuner.

I have to admit, since the TV pack, I havent checked if the floppyDTVs work natively as dvbs cards...

Tuner manufacturers like BlackGold, digital everywhere(fireDTV peeps) and Hauppauge are currently digging away at it. BlackGold specifically seem to have a special relationship with MS as they had freeview DVBS BDA/VMCE drivers in the triple hybrid card before the TV pack was even released.

I know a fair few Euro users who think the TV pack is great, as opposed to the underwhelming response here(do manufacturers really care about Oz...um, no)

until then, us sat users are stuck with analog 4:3 and zoom3 \o/

I personally dont think they are going to fix this properly until W7, but I like to err on the side of cynicsm

Yes I had heard that CI might have been a problem with MCE generally, but I thought DVB-S was now supported (without CI module) with TV Pack?? As were multiple tuners of othe varieties.

Re: DVB-S Tuners and "TV Pack"

fire/floppyDTV users from Europe are reporting successful CI integration using the new beta drivers for these devices.
