Generic TV Tuner Question

Hey all I am going overseas soon and I wanted to get myself a USB TV Tuner so I could watch some TV on the go. I have a lot of media on the laptop already but I still thought it might be a good idea. I went to buy one the other day but the shop assistant said it wouldn't work overseas because frequency that tv picture and audio were sent over was different and there would be no way I could get it working. Is this true or is there a way to get them to work...I figured that if it searched for frequencies then it wouldn't matter where in the world I was, especially if it was a digital one....

Anyway any help would be appreciated as I'd like to get one soonish and get it working before I go

Re: Generic TV Tuner Question

TV broadcast standards are different in different parts of the world - it's not just a matter of frequencies. That said, some of the differences in standard can be tweaked by using different software drivers, so you might have some success in certain countries. It won't be plain sailing, though.

Buy yourself one that can do digital and analogue (hybrid), that way if you go to a place where they don't have DVB-t then you can watch analogue.
