HVR2200 and Asus P5E-VM HDMI

Anyone using the above combo? Thinking about spending another couple of hundred bucks, and would love to know if I am about to waste my money (again).

Re: HVR2200 and Asus P5E-VM HDMI

I've got the same setup, is working well so far.

Just plugged the tuner in, ran the install CD and Vista found the dual tuners. all done in 10 minutes including reboot/installing card.

Thanks - good to know. Can you tell me if S3 Sleep works? I have the AverMedia at the moment and the system is unusable. It loses the tuner after a resume. I have set it to be always on, but it still loses the tuner from time to time.

I notice on some websites the HVR2200 is listed as "S3 Compatible" which gives me hope, but I'm worried it could be the motherboard. (Motherboard not actually that much more expensive to replace than the card)

Not to sure about the s3 resume, the box is on all the time as i'm too lazy to set it up properly & it's a torrent box.

It's something i've been meaning to have a look at

Can you hit sleep, wait a few minutes and power it back up for me?

I wish for some stupid reason the mobo doesn't power down.

I've tried every single combination of settings, checked the bios, unplugged everything in the system in case another piece of hardware was stopping it, but can't make it sleep.

S3 sleep works fine with this combo. PC wakes up to record and goes back to S3 pretty much without issue. Once every couple of months or so I've lost sound (using the co-ax digital out) and had to reboot. If it wasn't for that I'm not sure when I would have rebooted otherwise.

Having said all that, my motherboard died today, about 1 year old. Will be replacing it with a GA-MA78GPM-DS2H I think.

That's weird. Any major differences from my config? (See my .sig) Mine suspends fine. Are you running the standby tool?

Cheers! (Now I just have to wait "2-3 weeks" for them to come back into stock)

Edit: Good luck with the new board. Seems a strange choice though since you will have to replace the CPU with an AMD one also.

I have the P5E-VM HDMI motherboard and HVR-2200 Tuner card.

To get S3 to work I had to get the latest bios for the motherboard.

Also found that running the digital HDMI audio I couldn’t get DTS output to my amp. Only alternative was to use the digital SPDIF output instead. In order to get this to work I had to completely disable the digital HDMI driver as, although audio was configured to ouput through SPDIF, the HMDI driver kept the sound channels live (but with no sound) on the HDMI output and caused my amplifier to assume that HMDI was the appropriate input for audio. Disabling the HMDI audio driver fixed this enable my amplified to detect SPDIF as the auio input.

A little disappointing to have to use SPDIF and therefore two cables from the media centre but everything works well otherwise.

I have an open support call with ASUS about the lack of DTS through HDMI.

Dang, you have a point. I'd been gathering bits to put a HTPC together for my mum and had the board fixed in my head as the new must have board - ordered one without thinking. No big problem though, I've got a BE2350 surplus to requirements that will do nicely.
