Need ~100 Tuner card? VMC

Ive finally got all my other components pretty much sorted, but a tad stuck with the Tuner card.

-Dual tuners is not important for me.
-It doesnt really need to be a hybrid one either.
-I would like it to have a remote that works very well with VMC
-price around the 80-100 mark is fine.
-pci-e 1x would be ideal aswell.
-mpeg encoding onboard would be ideal aswell.

other components are

Antec NSK2480 Black - 125 [PC Case Gear]
GA-MA78GM-S2H - 75 [MSY]
AM2 Athlon X2 5200+ - 87 [MSY]
Scythe Ninja Mini - 59 [PC Case Gear]
2GB 800 Ram Value - 48 [MSY]
WD 500GB HDD - 83 [MSY]
Pioneer 215 Black - 29 [MSY]
Logitech Cordless EX-110 USB - 39 [MSY]
Logitech Harmony 525 - 65 [PC Case Gear]

thanks for any help.

Gidday Extreme101,

you can get a PCI-E Leadtek Winfast PxDTV2300H Hybrid for under $100.00
or if you can use a PCI card you can get this one Leadtek Winfast DTV1000S PCI for under $60.00

For a good MCE remote you can get a http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/techreviews/ for around $60.00

Regards Blackjet

Re: Need ~100 Tuner card? VMC

i was looking at the PxDTV2300H and i can get it for about 85 at MSY
ive read that it works well with VMC?

i am getting a logitech harmony 525, so i mearly want the reciever/remote from the tuner card to teach my logitech remote its codes.

Leadtek Winfast DTV1000S, i can see that one for 34 bucks
pci is fine, but just thought a pci-e would be better.
i will definitly do some comparisons and see if the 3200 is worth the extra.

Extreme101

I'm running the DTV1000s and and very happy with it for the price.

I can what HDTV while i'm ripping DVD's to Xvid to chuck on my network and it doesn't miss a beat. Can't really fault it for its cost.

Re: Need ~100 Tuner card? VMC

Hi Extreme101

I can also give the DTV1000s a thumbs up. Im running the 1000T and 1000S both good cards.

Not sure what the reciever is like as im running the Microsoft remote.

Here is a link to the Leadtek comparison chart http://www.leadtek.com/eng/tv_tuner/...digital_tv.pdf

By the looks of it the only differences between the DTV1000S and the PxDTV2300 H is that the PxDTV2300 H has FM and is PCI-e

Sounds good, I've been looking at this tuner myself. At $40 it seems great. What's the image quality, and channel changing etc like?

Re: Need ~100 Tuner card? VMC

the dvt1000 is looking very positive.
i dont really need the features of the 3200h i was originally looking at. (i think i said 2300 before, i meant 3200)

the only thing that concerns me
the 3200h has Hardware MPEG2
the 1000S do not.

will the systems specs i have listed above be fine doing the decoding/encoding or whatever it does instead of the tuner card?
eg. recording a HD station in high quality?

The tuner card has no influence on image quality of DTV. This is purely a function of the graphics card and drivers. Image quality will be identical regardless which tuner you have.

The hardware MPEG encoder is for taking an analogue input (from for example a pay TV box or VCR or some other source) and digitizing it. It is NOT used at all when watching or recording digital TV. If you don't plan on converting analogue video into digital, then you do not need this feature.

The remote sensor and remote are moderate but haven't caused an issue as yet. The remote is very light but acutually feels quite firm and doesn't flex.

Channel change time is roughly a second to 1 1/2 while i'm deocding or compressing dvd's.
