DVB-S Twinhan Mantis Drivers

Hi All,

I'm having some issues with a DVB-S Twinhan 1034 card under Vista. I'm running the latest drivers off the Twinhan/Azurewave website. Does anybody know the best version of the drivers? or any Beta drivers? The card runs OK with the supplied software but other BDA software seems to give grief.

Thanks,

David.

Re: DVB-S Twinhan Mantis Drivers

The answers you seek are here:

INSTALLING TWINHAN 1034 DVB-S MANTIS PCI some ANSWERS

If that doesnt help, there is a dedicated Twinhan thread at DVB Owners

http://forums.dvbowners.com/index.php?act=idx

IIRC, theres some trick involved in getting these things to be recognised under vista mce.

good luck.

Just a FYI. With the Fiji update, DVBS will be enabled in MCE. Keep your eye on the upcoming MCE supported DVBS cards that BlackGold and Hauppauge will release(probably Twinhand eventually too). There are FTA only cards atm, like Black Golds amazing '6 in 1' hybrid with MS/MCE drivers for DVBS in MCE, but they dont have CI support yet.

of course, the usual CI shenanigans apply.

Just in case your curious, here's BlackGold's site. Love their stuff.

Lets just say the BDA application I was trying to get working might be very similar to this update.

Appreciate the response. The black and gold website is interesting as they've release newer drivers specifically for Fiji.

David.

Just a couple of notes on these drivers. The drivers definitely install better and seem to be better behaved. One blue screen on closing DVBViewer caused by mtsbda.sys

The DigitalTV software supplied with the card works OK with the single tuner however with 4 DVB-T tuners and the Twinhan 1034 I'm unable to access the DVB-S tuner through the software as it seems to have a 4 tuner limit.

I still haven't been able use these with TV Pack to tune the satellite channels. No signal strength readings and no signal when tuning using live tv. I can't access the render graph using graphedit to check whether it is a bad tuning request or a bad graph.

I have had success with MediaPortal however I can't run MediaPortal without affecting the Media Centre Receiver service - launching mediaportal or changing channel seems to interupt any recordings running in media center.

ProgDVB doesn't seem to render to the screen but the tuner has signal strength. Similarly DVBViewer reports an unable to load filter problem.

Does the DNTVLive software support DVB-S tuners? Or does anyone know any good DVB-S Software?

Thanks,

David.

Re: DVB-S Twinhan Mantis Drivers

Just a followup.

At this stage I haven't been able to get TV Pack working with the Twinhan.

I've resorted to a modified build of MediaPortal for the DVB-S. I suspect that at some stage we'll get updated drivers and CI functionality similar to the workarounds for MCE2005.

I've also found that MediaPortal deliberately shuts down the Media Center services - which has got to be some of the worst programming I've ever seen. I've commented that code and recompiled and it does basically work (DVB-T via Media Center, DVB-S via MediaPortal). Makes you appreciate how solid Media Center is though.

Now to get a TV Guide into TV Pack and we are go for install onto the main machine if I can bring myself to upgrade to Ultimate for the 4 tuners.

One thing I have seen though is that depending on how frequently the encryption keys are changing you may need to run the tuner for a while until the CAM/CI pickup the new keys. Since the computer is setup to S3 sleep I think this might be a killer. ie when the computer is in S3 it isn't processing the key updates.

I'd say this could be a reason that Microsoft haven't tackled encrypted DVB-S properly in this release. It could just be my setup.

Re: DVB-S Twinhan Mantis Drivers

Hi David

just wanted to add that I'm in the same boat you are. I also have a Twinhan Card DVB-S and get the "No TV Signal" when attempting to setup in VMC. DVB and Mediaportal are fine and have been using then for years. I just thought this would be great to combine all of the cahnnels together in VMC. I'm using a twin tuner DVB-t card for UK broadcasts and my DVB-S for German TV as my wife needs a taste of home.....

Hope we can somehow get this sorted.
