Tuner Picture Quality

Hi I was wondering if I could get some quick feedback.

I have a AsusTek TV7162 Hybrid TV tuner in my system. The HD picture quality seams low. eg if I compare TenHD directly on the TV with TenHD on the Media Center. The TV wins hands down. The media center looks soft, almost like an unscaled SD picture.

In fact (using the same example) TenSD and TenHD almost look the same if you watch it with the media center.

I don't think it's the video card because I have recently upgraded the video card to an 8500GT (for Blu-ray). I was hoping it would help with the picture also. But there was no change.

My TV is connected with HDMI.

Would a different turner help with this? Has anyone else swapped over tuners to resolve a problem like this and had success?

Can anyone recommend a high end high quality card (needs to be half-height) or a usb adapter?

Re: Tuner Picture Quality

Tuner has no impact on digital TV quality.

What drivers are you running for your 8500GT? Does it have a digital color output option in the Nvidia Control Panel? If so, change it from RGB to YCbCr444 & see how that looks.

Hi Justin

Thanks for that tip. No luck but I think it will be good for future viewing. I tired switching the pc from 720p to 1080i (the max my tv supports). That didn't work ether. It looks better at 720p and the interface is more responsive.

For reference blu-ray looks great. I don't expect hdtv to look like blu-ray but it should look like it does with the tuner in the TV.

I now have a black border around the media center interface as a result of switching screen resolutions. The desktop is fine. I'm running both at the same res. Any ideas why I can't get the full screen mode with 720p any more?
