I am in the process of rebuilding my VMC with a new motherboard and tuner. I have just bought the Hauppauge HVR 2200 and a new Gigabyte MA78GPM-DS2H motherboard. I have 2 GB ram and a AMD 3800+ Dual core CPU. The CPU and RAM are not new, but worked fine on the old machine.
I have installed Vista & SP1 and done a full Windows Update on it. Installed the latest Hauppauge drivers for the tuner (7.2.9.26105) from hauppauge.com.sg.
I went in to set up the tuners, and can set up a digital tuner fine - scans and gets 40 channels. I can watch and record those fine.
However, when I try to set up the tuner as analogue, about 2 - 5 seconds after I go into the 'Select source' screen where VMC asks you if it is S-Video 1, S-Video 2 etc, the machine reboots! Interestingly, it is NOT a Blue Screen - just a reboot straight away! I've never seen a machine do that.
I have run a Memory Diagnostics on the machine, and no errors were reported.
I expect either the motherboard or the tuner is faulty, but don't know which one. Has anyone seen this sort of behaviour before, and if so, what did you do to fix it?
You can also set Windows so that it won't automatically reboot when it blue screens (so that you can see the error). Control Panel>System>Advanced System Settings>Startup & Recovery Settings>Remove the tick from automatically restart.

Thanks for the link to the drivers - tried the latest, and no change.
This is not a blue screen failure - even if Windows reboots, you still get a blue screen for a few seconds. I checked the restart settings, and if it blue screens, Windows is set to write a memory dump. In my case, it goes directly from the VMC screen to the POST screen as it starts to boot.
Probably no help as I havent bothered using the analogue side. I use mine in dual HD digital and works well with the same setup as you.
Out of interest why the analogue if you can get digital?
Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I've just gotten the HVR 2200 and looks like i'm having the same issue as you. I have the same motherboard as well but with an Athlon X2 4850e. I'm running a single 2GB stick of ddr2 800. The only other difference is I also have a Dvico FusionHDTV Pro in the last PCI slot.
I tried disabling automatic restart on error but I definately don't get a blue screen, and nothing is written to the event logs.
I have it happen both in VMC, when watching svideo input in MediaPortal, and when trying to scan analogue channels in MediaPortal TV Server. Doesn't do it straight away, I usually get a bit of video on scan done before it goes.
May have to wait for a bios update for our boards since there is only version F1 at the moment.
Unfortunately the board only has one pcie x1 slot. I can try it in the x16 slot but it's not a long term solution as down the track i'd like to run hybrid crossfire.
I just tried putting the card in the x16 slot. Tried scanning analogue channels in MediaPortal and got an instant reboot so it doesn't seem that the slot makes a difference. I have another pc at home that I can try the card in so i'll see if analogue works on it which might narrow it down to the board.
I have now tried the card in my other computer and the card runs fine in analogue mode. The other computer has a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 mobo with a Core 2 Duo E6600 and a Geforce 7600gs graphics card.
Now that ATI has released the 8.9 catalyst drivers i'll give them a go and see if i still have problems, otherwise i'll try the 7600gs in my media centre pc to see if it's to do with the graphics card.
Tried catalyst 8.9 drivers but still have the problem. Will try the nVidia card next when I can be bothered dragging the pc out from under the cabinet again.
