Hello team,
I would like to know if somebody else heard about similar problems, and if there is a solution.
I have a Vista MCE htpc, with Hauppauge HVR-1300 hybrid card. I only use this card for digital TV watching and recording.
Tuner is working well, almost all DVB-T channels in my area are recognized, signal quality is excellent. I have a Sony 32'' LCD TV connected to the same aerial cable, and the channels recognized are exactly the same (I have to see - logically - that image quality of Sony TV is better than the Hauppauge TV tuner, but this is not a surprise)
Recording TV is working well, image is fluid and excellent quality. Same as live TV.
Problem is that I can only change channels (with remote control, inserting the channel number or using the +/- key) when they are inside the same mux (same frequency). If I select a channel from a different mux, the image hangs, and I have to switch off and on the live tv (on the remote) to recover.
Example, channels 1-2-3 are from a mux (818khz) and 3-4-5 are from another mux (614Khz). If I step between 1-2-3 in any sequence, it's ok, but if I jump from 2 to 4, the image and audio hangs up. I need to turn the TV off with the remote, getting the blue home screen, select again live TV, and at that point I see perfectly channel 4.
There is some kind of "reset" we can send to the tuner every time there is a channel change ? Apparently when the TV is "resetted" switching it off, when resumed it is working well on the same channel which was hanged before.
When I use the card for recording, everything is ok since the MCE is exiting from stand-by to run a programmed recording, so the TV card is probably re-initialized.
Do you have some idea ?
Thanks a lot and regards,
mditerli from Italy
Hi,
I have 2x1300 HVR's and no problems like this on MCE or VMC.
Do you run the latest drivers, from Hauppauge UK?
What video card do you have? Latest drivers?
I must admit that my HTPC runs 24x7 so no standby here.

Thanks Vlad,
yes I installed the latest drivers from Hauppauge website, revision 88x_2_122_26109_WHQL.
Video card is PCI-E Radeon HD3470, I don't think the problem is in the video card because when the TV hangs the MCE interface is still fully working, I can switch OFF an ON the Live TV function to restart the TV with the new channel.
I found my problem not related to standby function, the only relationship is when I run a programmed recording, the PC just resumes from standby, so the tuner is programmed (and probably resetted) with the requested channel and the recording goes well without problems.
I suspect more issues with the tuner itself or MPEG encoding.
I know this card has a good MPEG-2 encoder on-board, but this is a real advantage only to watch analog channels (encoding is done by the card and not by the CPU).
Do you know how I can use a different encoder in MCE ? Just to try...

mditerli

DTV is encoded in MPEG2. card has mpeg decoding just for analogue TV.
Try Cyberlink PowerDVD 8.0 decoder.

the utility you suggested me is working well, however I had to remove the Hauppauge HVR-1300 card from my htpc since it was needed for another pc (not running Vista MCE).
I installed in the HTPC another tuner, Terratec Cinergy HT. This is a single tuner (hybrid), PCI, apparently much simpler and smaller.
This card does not have my original problem, I can see channels in any order, jumping between different muxes (as expected), using mouse or MCE remote control
Using the encoder utility, I set the MPEG encoder to Cyberlink PowerDVD 8, apparently is working well.
So I changed two variables at the same time (the tuner and the encoder), I know this is not the best way to find out a problem...
I will test the current setup for some time (after my holidays) making recording a watching live TV. If all ok, at end of August I will put back the Hauppauge card to continue the analysis, changing only the MPEG encoder. My feeling is that the image quality of the 1300 is better than the Cinergy, but at the moment the Cinergy has a better compatibility with MCE.
Thanks for the help, and best regards. I will come back at the end of the month.
