VMC Stuttering - Nova T 500 Tuners

Hey Guys,

Got a media centre about a year ago now. Love what it does but get the impression that it isn't developed enough yet. The whole concept of digital tv is great but is also a pain in the bum. I have tried a few different things to get rid of the bad stuttering problems that i have been having. I have a 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo processor, so it can't be that (it is only using 11% when watching). I have also spent $500 on a TV guy to come and redo antenna and what have you. I am getting the right dB from the wall.

I have installed the Australia Drivers for the tuners (Haupuage Nova T 500). I have two of these (4 tuners) and am thinking that it has to be them. Is anyone else found that?

What is the best tuner out there at the moment that is a twin digital pci tuner?

I have a good graphics car (Gigabite 8800GT 512Mb Silent Pipe) so i counted that out as well.

If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Eric

Re: VMC Stuttering - Nova T 500 Tuners

Sounds like a reception issue to me. What is the quality of your signal - not just the signal strength. Did your antenna guy check the bit error rate?

With DTV the quality is actually much more important than the strength. Download scanchannelsbda (in the download section here I believe) and run that. It will give you the signal strength and quality for all channels.

If you are running two Nova T 500s then I assume you have a splitter. Make sure that it is not causing the problems. Odds are when your antenna was being tested the splitter wasn't in the circuit.

If you're not sure what the scanchannelsdba log says, post it here and one of us can help you.

Re: VMC Stuttering - Nova T 500 Tuners

Thanks for the reply.
It could be a reception issue for all i know.

I ran that program you suggested, i am scanning all Australian frequency's.

I am guessing this will take a while, do you know what 10 HD's frequency is so i can type it in.

How do you fix problems like this?

Thanks

Eric, you don't say where you are located. If it's Sydney, these may help. The SD and HD streams are in the same multiplex, just use the frequency shown for channel 10.

These are the channels from the main transmitters on the North Shore.
ABC VHF 12 Hor 226.5 MHz ABC Tower 221 Pacific Highway GORE HILL
SEVEN VHF 6 Hor 177.5 MHz Ch7/10 Tower 192-196 Hampden Road ARTARMON

SBS UHF 34 Hor 571.5 MHz ABC Tower 221 Pacific Highway GORE HILL

Re: VMC Stuttering - Nova T 500 Tuners

Sorry mate,
Gold Coast.

I don't really no how to work the program altogether. I selected one of the four tuners, and then selected scan all Australian Channels/Frequencies. No data or anything came up.

I found somewhere in the program where i can put a frequency and a bandwidth.

Cheers

The ACMA website gives these channel numbers for the Gold Coast area. Use the digital ones. And use 7 MHz as the bandwidth.

Gold Coast ABQ SBS TVQ BTQ QTQ
Analog 49 61 46 52 58
Digital 62 36 56 53 59

Gold Coast NRN NEN NBN
Analog 55 64 67
Digital 43 65 68

Just to test, here are the frequencies you would enter for the above ch#s (all centre frequencies)

62 767.500 MHz
36 585.500 MHz
56 725.500 MHz
53 704.500 MHz
59 746.500 MHz

43 634.500 MHz
65 788.500 MHz
68 809.500 MHz

Re: VMC Stuttering - Nova T 500 Tuners

Thank you for your efforts. I when i put the frequency in it went all weird so i obviously have done something wrong.

Could someone please give me a step by step way of working this program?

What i have been doing is choosing the tuner. then scanning all australian frequencies.
It comes up with no data.

If you dont know how to work the program i would appreciate any other ideas to fix it.

Cheers
Eric

Re: VMC Stuttering - Nova T 500 Tuners

Just run the program in a command prompt and follow the instructions.

Run it, select a tuner say 1: Nova-DT DVB-T Tuner (Dev1 Path0), then 5 Scan all Australian Frequencies, you should get a bunch of information on different channels but only with your antennae is working correctly, you can then rerun using option 4 Signal Statistics and put in a specific frequency, say 191500, bandwidth 100 the output will be similar to what others have stated above...

# signal locked = Y present = Y stength = 68 quality = 100

Anyone else is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong but this is how I've always worked it .

Re: VMC Stuttering - Nova T 500 Tuners

Eric

I had a similar issue when (Nova 500 stuttering) when I changed my power setting to 'balanced'. Took me ages to find out what it was.

Changed my power setting baxck to 'maximum performance' and the issue dissapeared...
