Re: HAUPPAUGE HVR-2200 For Sale - NEW

i wanted four tuner's and the hauppauge doesn't work in the PC with the dvico. So it's out with this card that is new and in with another dvico. I wish it would work, have spent an incredible amount of time even with the distributor in OZ trying to get it to work and it won't.
So to be honest it's not that funny it's actual quite painful.

To be honest JD, I feel empathy for you. But I agree with Mark. I would be ditching the Dvico and sticking to the hauppauge. Unless by some small miricale you have somehow managed to get it working! and If you have, there are about a thousand people on here that would like you to guide them through it.

Re: HAUPPAUGE HVR-2200 For Sale - NEW

Well if these cards are so great then someone will want it i assume.

I have been using MCE since 2004 (actually even wrote software for it) interviewed/podcasted did stuff with MS etc. So i know my way very well around the boxes. I think in total i have had 4 MCE machines (currently a big server with 4x XBOX 360's) hanging off of it.

In all the time i took advice from the site. And i have been running Dvico's without a hitch for about 4 years. I purchased the Hauppuage and it just doesn't want to gell. I actually posted the other day about some problems with it, and no one replied. Have spent vast quantities of time with New Magic trying to make it work in my system with the dvico.

So it's up for sale if someone wants a brand new card cheaper then what you will pay retail let me know.
Cheers
Justin

Re: HAUPPAUGE HVR-2200 For Sale - NEW

I understand.
However, you would be the only person on this forum currently looking at buying a Dvico card, yet alone ANOTHER one. And I'm not surprised you have already sold the Hauppauge.
How many cards were you selling? What were you trying to do?
Were you trying to run 4 cards, or 4 tuners?
I'm a little confused about that...
...I think you hit your own nail on the head
You had a Dvico , you were trying to mix in a HVR-2200. You have come to your own conclusion that the Dvico and the HVR-2200 don't like being together. Therefore you are happy to go out a buy another Dvico to keep the brands the same. Why didn't you go the other way and sell the Dvico and buy another HVR-2200?
Thats just the general feeling regarding Dvico at the moment..
I'm sure there have been posts of users that have that working. New Magic/Hauppauge even released new drivers a while back to address what issues there were running 2 of their cards together.

Re: HAUPPAUGE HVR-2200 For Sale - NEW

OK,
so know i have myself sorted out let me explain what actually happened.
I had two cards for sale because i brought two cards based on the feedback provided on the site.

Interesting note here. After doing some more research on the site, alot of people are having problems or had problems with the HVR-2200. So i know they may work for you and we can all run around the forums saying how great they are but in all honestly for some people they simply don't work properly. Identicial to the Dvico (sometimes they don't work either).

So i have a huge Media Center environment within my house. Probably more then most on this site (i didn't say everyone here). I have been running two dvico tuner cards working 100% for about the last two years. I have probably only had to touch the machine twice. We have 4 XBOX 360's attached as extender's to the server. So two tuners wasn't enough. So based on advice on this forum i purchased two Happauge HVR-2200 cards.

I have a top speced machine (Intel Quad 9550, 4Gb Ram, Gigabyte Mboard, about 3TB in server with about 6Tb in NAS and lots of other bits and pieces.).

So i rebuilt from scratch with the new Hauppuage cards and could only get most channels and not all working. (missing Channel 10, 10 HD and Prime). In saying that my Dvico cards that had NOT faulted at all picked up everything perfectly.

So i proceeded to spend time with (New Magic - Hauppauge cards oz) and about 48 hours of my personal time to try and get the cards working. In the end and I quote from New Magic (whom were reasonably helpful) - "but clearly there is something about your distribution system they dont like. "

So even the distributor couldn't get them to work. I have now got running (perfectly mind you with min 97% signal on every channel) 2x DVBT-PRO Dvico's and the new Dvico Dual PCIe card. All working very nicely on the Media Server with ICE TV.

So basically the moral of the story is what works for someone doesn't always work for another person. Regions are different, Frequencies are different, everything can be different. So lets not try and force people down a card that may not work for them, lets simply say what works for us. Because to be honest my Dvico cards, i now totally swear by them they work without a hitch (originally about 3 years gave me a little pain), but now are perfect.

BTW mark1 (you aren't from New Magic are u?) Mark Harwood?

Regards
Justin

Re: HAUPPAUGE HVR-2200 For Sale - NEW

yeah i stil have no private or direct reply from mark1? So i don't know.
I would assume that Mark (when i spoke to him over the phone) was a nice guy and wouldn't be playing tatics on the XP Media Center site to try and push business his way. There seems to be alot of push for these cards, and although they look good on the surface, i think other cards can do just as good as job if they are configured correctly.

Re: HAUPPAUGE HVR-2200 For Sale - NEW

..
....
.....

Sorry, Nope. Not Mark from New Magic. But I'm a nice guy too

Just plain old Mark from Adelaide.

Great, so its obvious that I really like my HVR-2200.
After all, yes, I did start the thread - Hauppauge HVR-2200 - What a fantastic PCIe Dual Digital TV Tuner (p.s. 474 posts, 34,812 views) - But thats only because I may have been one of the first users of the card.

It wasn't clear what you were trying to do. It read like you were running a Dvico with the HVR.
FACT: There has been success running 2 HVR's together.
FACT: They are a very good card.
FACT: Dvico are not very popular - this thread & and this one.
I guess they would work for some. I have had 2 - the first PCI dual and the latest PCI-e dual. The first one wasn't bad. It worked good, but it didn't like SBS much (yea, probably signal related - but read on). The PCI-e - nothing but dreadful!!! You may have the newer board. But I don't care. It sucked so much, I would never personally recommend them to anyone.
BTW: over the past 2 years running and building HTPC's, I have road tested about 6 cards (yes, a digital now one, a compro and few few others). IMO, I have found the one I have been looking for. It has a perfectly smooth picture. And no problem with signal on any channel. And I have done most of my testing in the same system, on the same antenna, with no change to the signal.

So its a recommendation from experience. No one is being 'forced' to get anything. It's unfortunate they didn't work in your system, because its a far better card from a far more respected brand.

Why would I send a private message? This is a public forum. And I already have a HVR-2200, and don't need to run two .

Re: HAUPPAUGE HVR-2200 For Sale - NEW

Hi jd2005 and everyone else,

I'd just like to add some background to Mark1's credentials.

Mark1, along with many other people at this forum busted their arses trying to get success with the DVICO cards (none more so than the legend MikeyM).

The DVICO cards just pushed a lot of people beyond their limits and Mark1 (who obviously wears his heart on his sleeve), reached his limit and started searching for the next tuner card to try.

He found success in the HVR-2200 and in his joy he started shouting it from the roof tops so all could hear.

I personally did end up having success with my PCI DD4 (albeit after attacking it with a soldering iron), but it would seem that you and I are a minority.

This has the makings of a great movie.... what do you think

Jack

Re: HAUPPAUGE HVR-2200 For Sale - NEW

Should be clear, i have no issues with Mark1 (now knowing he isn't employed by NewMagic). The only comment i would say...

He is very vocal which is fine, this is a public forum, however people have different situitions, and telling me to throw a DVICO and move to hauppuage even when i spent $500 and tried already to make the move was a little silly.

Forums are here to help people, not forceful tell them to change their mind, which is indeed what i thought he tried to do. Especially after i had spent 48 hours trying to fix things with the Hauppuage cards.

So everyone can go back their merry little way, my original point is still the same. Lately there has been significant push on the forums for Hauppuage cards (mainly because they work for most people), in saying that they don't work for everyone and everyone should be mindful of that..

Enjoy. (Freedom of speech )
Cheers
JD
