Hauppauge HVR-2200

Hi Folks,

I am on my second TV card attempt. :-)

I recently installed Haupauge HVR-2200. I only installed the driver, not the WinTV software.

The installation was all easy and seamless. Vista MCE recognized both tuners and found all the channels.

The problem is that on all SD channels I get a very frequent (1-2 seconds) and short video and audio stuttering. Also some very light cracking noises on the audio. Most HD channels are perfect, except on SBS HD where I get the same problems from the SD channels.

I tried to install the WinTV software to check if the problem happens outside MCE. It scans the analog channels ok, but the channel scanning procedure freezes my PC everytime after 10 or 20 seconds after starting the scan in the digital channels.

Anyone got any clues or suggestions on what to try next?

I would suggest your video card drivers are not up to date OR you may need to roll back to a known good version. Most of these stuttering issues are bought about due to the video card drivers... Latest is not always the best and unfortunately due to individual system configurations, a lot fo this is trial by error...

Also, as your HD channels seem OK, it's unlikely to be the tuner. The SD & HD channels for a particular station are actually a single transmission, so if it was the card, the same station's HD channel should have trouble too.

Couple of things to try.

Go into your Vista Power Management settings in Control Panel and go to the Advanced section. There will be a setting somewhere for CPU throttling. The default minimum is usually 5% and max is 100%. Try upping the lower limit to something like 50% and see if that makes a difference. Obviously if the max in not 100%, set it to that.

Also, if you have an AMD cpu, try turining off Cool'n'Quiet and see if that makes a difference.

To help troubleshoot you could also turn on the monitoring features of Task Manager then go into Media Center and play some TV. Go back to Task Manager and have a look at whether there are any disk access or CPU spikes that might correspond to your glitches.

EDIT: Oh, and posting a detailed list of your hardware might also help us shed some light on the situation.

Re: Hauppauge HVR-2200

Ok, I only saw some of the recent posts now. But last night I was fiddling with the sound card settings (Asus Xonar DX) and the problem went away. Only I do not remember exactly what I did as I fiddled a lot.

When I get to the bottom of what is happening I'll post it here. Only I am not sure I want to fiddle anymore this week 'cause I am happy right now as I can watch the Tour the France in SBS HD
