STRANGE! Channel 9 (not other channels?) WHITE BACKGROUND STUTTER (mostly during ads)

Several threads recently have had the exact same problem I have currently got. Its very frustrating, because its probably the last major issue I have with my HTPC!

Dvico Dual Digital 4 / stuttering problems
Calling all Dvico Dual Digital 4 owners/users - MONEY AHEAD
everything is great... except...

I have fully read all posts, and they all just stop dead with no confirmed fix!!!??

It is a real issue, I have it, almost exactly the same.
Here are my specs:
Case: Antec NSK2400 Media PC Case
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-8I945GMH-RH
CPU: Intel Pentium D 945, 65-nm technology, 2x2 MB L2, 3.40 GHz, 800 MHz
RAM: 2GB GeiL DDRII PC2-5300 (4x512, Dual Channel)
HDD(s): 320GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10
Tuner(s): Dvico FusionHDTV Dual PCI-Express
Video card: Gigabyte GV-NX76G256D-RH (NVIDIA GeForce 7600GS GPU)
Optical Drive(s): Pioneer DVR-111D Internal DVD/CD Writer (Silver)
Remote Control System: Micro$oft MCE Remote (Learned into a Sony RM-VL1000T Commander) and Keyboard
Display Type & connection used: Panasonic PV-42TH60A / DVI-HDMI / 720p
Decoder: M$ Vista Decoder (maybe trying PureVideo in the future) / Vista Codec Package
Primary use: Dedicated HTPC

My problem is only on Channel 9, and yes, I can almost guarantee its not a signal problem (I too have had an expensive, fully primed and tested, digital Antenna installed). AND the stutter only occurs when the screen is just about to be mostly filled with white - I have watched and confirmed this happen many times. And because you get white backgrounds a lot during commercials, that is when you most notice it.
The pattern just suggests something else is at fault, just can't put my finger on it.
Its so obviously something to do with what is in the mpeg at the time, and the displaying of it on the screen. It also drops out the audio to my amp while stutter is happening. Some ads that have white all the way through, stutter like crazy, some just near the end, when they are showing text on screen - like a companys details. Then the very next ad, wont stutter at all, then the next one might - so on - NOT SIGNAL!
Got to be a decoder setting, video card driver/setting, tuner driver/setting. But, where is it.
I bet its something simple ;-p
Also notice I have the newer Dvico PCI-e card.
I am very selective about what I change, and install. So this is a very neat, fresh install. No conflicts, no extra decoders have ever been tried (yet?).

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF WE COULD SORT THIS OUT!!!

Anyone have any ideas?

Can't help you mate - just give you some comfort
I'm sitting in EXACTLY the same boat!!!

Same tuner and the same issue with CH9 ONLY just like you've described.

I wouldn't bet any money on looking for some specific setting that would resolve this issue.
It may have something to do with the way '9' broadcasts their signal(?). Otherwise why all other channels work perfectly fine?

PS
I already tried PureVideo and there's no change.

Re: STRANGE! Channel 9 (not other channels?) WHITE BACKGROUND STUTTER (mostly during

Thanks, I won't try a different decoder then.
I didn't really want to anyway as the Microsoft one seems to have very good PQ and smooth playback. So I'm happy to keep using it.

Have you tried the native Dvico software instead of Media Center? Do you still have the issue in their software?

Anyway, I submitted the question to Dvico, and received a response within 24 hours
(not bad I guess).
This is what they said (not real good english ;-)

Hi.
This is our know issue and we noticed that it is something to do with original stream.
Stream is changed the resolution or size when you can see white scean.
I reported this issue to our codec team, but they didn't find the solution yet.
i think we need some time to improve this problem.
Please be patient and we will update it when we have improved for this.
Thanks.

So there you go.

Maybe there is no way I can fix it, and I need to wait for them to come up with a solution.

Re: STRANGE! Channel 9 (not other channels?) WHITE BACKGROUND STUTTER (mostly during

You'd better add me to the list.

I'm in Brisbane and I'm using a Dvico Dual Digital 4 tuner.
Like you say the problem occurs on ch9 on screens which are mainly white.
I have a lot of problems with the CSI shows.
I've noticed it also to a very much lesser extent on the locally made 'Creek to Coast' type shows on Ch7 in Brisbane. It seems the better the quality the greater the problem.

I've turned Aero off which has helped.

Would be good to know if it is the Dvico cards which have the common problem.

Mark1

Can you keep me informed with your correspondence with Dvico please.

You never know, they may find a solution.

Re: STRANGE! Channel 9 (not other channels?) WHITE BACKGROUND STUTTER (mostly during

I've found the problem too with the Dual Digital Express (also using a 7600gs graphics card )

I could get 10min (or more) of perfect video and then a scene change would cause a momentary glitch in the video/audio - did most of my testing on channel 2 (95-100% signal strength) but observed problems on other channels too.

I swapped back to my old Avermedia a16A and the issue disappeared. I spoke to Lako Pacific support - they told me they've had problems with Intel motherboards (mine is a DG965OT) and offered no solution only suggesting I return the card to the retailer for a refund, which I did.

Incidentally I was a little disappointed with the channel change time - slower than my old Avermedia.

I got exactly the same response (in the same english ;-)

However I went one step further and asked them if I can assist them somehow as obviously they don’t have access to CH9 broadcast...

Yesterday, they gave me access to their FTP and asked to upload 3min transport stream from ch9 where the issue in the subject occurs.
I'll do it later today so we'll see if that will be any help.

PS
I’m laughing at their english where for me it’s a second language as well so there’s a chance I’m not much better at some points ;-)

Rgds

Damn!!! I just ordered one of these things!!! If I knew how long it's going to take for them to fix I could probably wait it out, but I'm feeling like cancelling the order!

Re: STRANGE! Channel 9 (not other channels?) WHITE BACKGROUND STUTTER (mostly during

Wow, looks like Dvico may be working on finding the fault!
Hope they come up with something good...., soon.

@ hodges: No problem. This is the latest reply from them;
Hi.
If i can receive any result, i'll inform to you again.
Thanks.

I'll let you know.

@ simmo: Is Lako Pacific the distributor for Dvico? What is there contact number incase I need it in the future
Don't worry everyone else with this problem, I don't plan on bailing yet!
WHAT! They've had problems with Intel motherboards? Doesn't that cover most people!!?
Are you saying the Dvico Express was slower to change channel than the Avermedia?

@ pawelg: GREAT!! Please make sure you do send them that stream so they can get to work. Let me know what you hear from them.
PS
Your English is much better...

@ IronChef: I don't know what to say. If it any consolation, I have been through 5 different brand cards since I built my HTPC (~1 year ago), and they have all had an issue or two (or three...) of some sort to deal with.

I'm also in Brisbane and I have this problem too, Dvico FusionHDTV Dual PCI-Express/GeForce 8600GS running Vista 64 media center. Channel 9 seems to suffer the most followed by 7, all other channels are perfect. Old STB has no problem with 9 or 7. Very annoying!
