Yes it is (although I wouldn't say it's "like" the dvico )

Actually, I don't think there's such a thing as an SD only tuner card, AFAIK they're all HD.

Oh thanks! I have a dvico dual express and I have been reading this thread as I also have this stupid white background stutter thing on channel 9. The funny thing is that it freezes for about 2 seconds not on the white screen but right before it (half a second I'd say). Very annoying.

The only reason I chose a dvico card 2 months ago was that I thougth it was the only HD card available. I was stupid enough not to do a proper research, and I don't think these other tv cards (e.g. the Hauppauge one) seem to claim they are HD. Actually they do not say anything about HD or SD. Dvico was the only one that does claim HD in the ad and made me fall in the trap :-(

Yep, thats the exact symptom. Thats what I meant when I said I could predict a white screen. How funny is it when a whole advert is white and it returns to normal right when the next advert starts

No doubt you are aware of the follow up thread to this one -
Dvico...the stuttering...what you can do.

Want to stop being disappointed with your HTPC and start enjoying it? Then this is the card to get right now...
Hauppauge HVR-2200 - What a fantastic PCIe Dual Digital TV Tuner

It has no problems, awesome response from the many new users already (including myself ), and the best support you will find.

No disappearing second tuner! Drivers that work and will only be improved! Is soley designed to work in Media Center! And copes perfectly with my signal (my Dvico never did)!
I have a new found expectation of trouble free operation, and it gets delivered.

If it helps, I had my Express for 4 months and was allowed a refund. You have only had yours for 2. Either contact Hassan directly or just rock up to where you purchased it from and tell them it has technical faults and you would like a refund. They should be able to get authorization from Hassan through their sub distributor.

Re: STRANGE! Channel 9 (not other channels?) WHITE BACKGROUND STUTTER (mostly during

I've been following this thread for a while and although I don't have a Dvico card it does interest me as to what can be causing the card to stutter on white backgrounds. As I understand it the tuner chip itself couldn't care less what colour/brightness is in the RF signal - so could it perhaps be an issue with the demodulator erroneously telling the tuner to adjust AGC when certain data is demodulated?

I notice that there appears to be a new revision of the Dual 4 on a smaller PCB. Does this model have the same problem?

CX23882-19 the new Dual 4 hasn't been released as yet. I'll be getting one next week for testing. It's a completely different card. I'll keep you posted on it's progress.

Re: STRANGE! Channel 9 (not other channels?) WHITE BACKGROUND STUTTER (mostly during

After seeing some of the posts here, I emailed Hassan on 'hasan@lakopacific.com' about 10 days ago saying that I was interested in the mod that Mikey_M found. I received no replies.

I then decided I'll try to return my DVICO dual express card and buy a new one.

I emailed I-tech.com.au, the online shop where I bought my DVICO card. I wrote that the card had a technical problem and lodged a standard return application within their website. I received a standard reply asking me to send the card back to them. I was explicitly advised no to send any packaging, CD, cables, etc, just the card. They wrote:

"Upon receipt of the product, i-Tech, the distributor or the manufacturer will verify the condition and warranty status."

I wonder how long will it be before I see my money. I am uneasy about forking out money to buy another card, before I get my money back from this one. I feel I will be out of watching TV for a few weeks, eh?

I never had to return something like this before. Where the problem does not seem so obvious for a salesperson or even when the problem might not be reproducible in every machine.

Any ideas anyone?

Hi All

By the sounds of it, them asking you not to send anything else but the card back means they'll be sending you a replacement, not a refund.
If you haven't sent it already, I'd be verifying with them that it is being returned for a refund and not an exchange or warranty claim.

At the moment the mods for the Dual Express haven't been finalised. That should happen this week. I've been giving one a good flogging and so far not a glitch or a hiccup.
Checked it with Dvico's own software as well as Media Centre on Vista32.
Dvico are planning to modify all existing stock with the mod and all future productions runs as well of the Dual Express card.

A quick word regarding Vista SP1. There's copies of the RTM version floating around on the net. It's going to be a repeat of the XP SP1 saga. You may find some software won't run properly after SP1 is installed. I found out the hard way over the weekend
One of the things to change in SP1 is the way video rendering is done, so don't be in too much of a hurry to get it. It may cause more problems then it fixes atm.
Another pain is that SP1 can no longer be slipstreamed into an existing installation disk, like you could with XP. Only VLM end users will be given a slipstreamed capable versions of SP1 on disk. Vlite isn't planning on adding the feature either.
On a positive note, with SP1 installed, Media Centre works great with both the Dual 4 and Dual Express cards

Regards

Mike

No! Don't return the card under these conditions!! Obviously by sending in just the card you will not be given a refund, you will either get your card back or a replacement.
That is a typical return procedure where they will attempt to reproduce the problem. No doubt they will reply with no problem found (either they can't see the problem, didn't test enough or properly, or could see the problem and are lying ) and send the card back to you.
You MUST reason with Hassan first (if he isn't replying to emails, ring Lako Tech Support on 1300 302 306 - in my case, he answered the phone, if he doesn't, ask for him). You will only be on the right track once he has agreed to authorise a refund. He is the top of the chain. In my case he had authorised a refund for me, but had to pass the refund authority on to the sub distributor of the place where I purchased mine from (some buy direct from Lako, some through one of their sub distributors). I called the sub distributor myself, informed them of Lako's decision and was given the ok from them. Once you have all that, I-tech.com.au will need to know that all interested parties have authorised a refund. You should try get acceptance from them either by email or phone before sending in your card (packaging and all). They should have no problem giving you your money back then because they are covered by the decision of Lako. Remember, its not the resellers fault, they are the ones that miss out on a sale. Its Lako that should be accountable.
If you need further information, post here or private message me (others have )
