Hi Feegee,
Yes, stuttering is a problem that I encountered when testing a 4 tuner arrangement but I've also read about it from others with lesser arrangements - affecting recorded TV files and even Live TV. I particularly noticed major stuttering and corrupted recorded TV files when a 3rd tuner would kick in which made me suspicious of the signal strength being a major issue. However, there could be a number of reasons. I'd suggest you try the following:
1. Make sure your antenna wall socket has a direct connection to your antenna via shielded Co-ax cabling. If you are running 2 or more tuners, don't share the wall socket connection with anything else and , in the case of 2 tuners instead of a dual tuner card, make sure you have the antenna cable split via a professional splitter unit. You might want to try this app
http://www.dayc.vispa.com/files/scbd...nelsBDA_UK.exe to scan channels and check the signal strength. I've spent a few weeks trying to get a workable link to this Scanchannelsbda app from links that didn't function but this link worked today! I've not used it but i might test it owt when I get a spare moment. It's been built for UK conditions although digital TV there isn't that different to Aust. but, as I said, I haven't tried it out so don't know how valuable it would turn out to be.
2. Update your tuner card driver. Use the Australian (if you are in Australia) version of the latest tuner card drivers - see
Official: Hauppauge Vista Drivers Available (which I know you've already been posting there) but make sure you install the right ones. Also, install from the manufacturer's install file, not via the device manager area.
3. Update your graphics card driver - mine had to be ATI and after installing the latest ATI drivers I noticed stuttering on live TV reduced to virtually nil. I'm not sure about your card type given your specs so you will have to suss that out carefully.
4. Install the Cyberlink DVD (6CH) solution for Media Centre which will have PowerDVD video/audio decoders running in concert. Some people swear by Purevideo but I prefer the Cyberlink.
5. Of course, after you update drivers, you need to 'reintroduce' Media Centre to the tuners by doing the whole rescanning set up thang. It could be, the last time you did a scan, your reception/antenna suffered interference and that corrupted a possible clean scan originally. You may even need to totally remove the tuner registry keys in the registry and get Vista to re-discover your tuners and set new keys for them. If this is the case, follow my sticky here:
EASY Instructions for Adding Extra Tuners to VMC If this proves successful then you may not need to do Point 4 above.
6. If the stuttering is still happening then maybe your tuner card is 'dicky'. Some tuner cards come with their own software for basic channel scanning and watching. Try to see if you can at least get the tuner card to work properly using its own base software. Also check with the tuner card manufacturer to make sure it is compatible with your motherboard/video card.
