mixing tuner card brands

Hi

Does anyone have a mix of tuner card brands running on thier MCE?

I have a Dvico Plus and I want to add a second tuner but I dont want to shell out the bucks for a second Plus card.

Can I run a twinhan HDTV PCI with my Dvico card without probs?

Also are there any tricks to installing a second tuner card?

** Note I am running Nvidia Pure DVD decoder and a winfast 6600gt with latest drivers.

Re: mixing tuner card brands

Hi,

As to mixing cards, problems have been encountered by many people when;
  • mixing different brands
  • mixing different cards of the same brand
  • mixing different revisions of the same card
  • using multiple instances of identical revisions of the same brand card
To be honest it's a bloody lottery. My advice is buy what seems like a good card from a place where you can return it if all else fails.

That's the best guarantee you'll get,

Fot myself I use the Dvico Lite and a a TinyUSB wothout any issue.

But no doubt someone else is using the same mix and cursing it.

E.E.

Re: mixing tuner card brands

I'm running a Dvico Plus + 2x Twinhan visionplus cards and they do work together.
I'm now trying to get rid of them all.
The two different cards have their associated problems and I've had enough them.
I suggest doing your homework as you may end up with a system that you will dread.

Known problems:

a) Dvico cards have crap drivers but are well made, work in poor signal areas
b) Visionplus cards, reasonable driver support but poorly made and need a good signal.

Good Luck

ROFL!!!!!!!

you forgot to mention "Using a single Tuner Card under Microsoft Windows XP Media Centre Edition"

But EE is right...both have advantages and disadvantages...

Same - Low chance of Driver conflicts. Easy to mix up which card is which as they are labelled the same
different - possibility of driver issue. But very easy to distinguish the 2...hopefully
