Lightbulb DVICO Dual Digital Tuner Setup

Hello All,

I have noticed a lot of disappointed owners of the dvico dual digital tuner (and well i was one of them). In the interest of restoring some of that faith (and not having to go out and spend another $200-300 on another card) I have sat down and written up the steps I took in getting the tuners working.

This document (hopefully) walks through from the PCI tuner maybe working and USB tuner not working with an old driver set ... to ... both the PCI tuner and USB tuner working nicely together.

The main thing I can't stress enough is that windows tries to help you by installing drivers which are not the correct ones. It is important that you ensure that windows doesn't automatically do this by you saying "NO! I will tell you what you want".

Please feel free to comment on the document with your experiences and I will add it to the document. I will be adding the MCE screenprints about configuring the tv tuners and how the guide is atttached to the turner in the future (when I get time).

Cheers,

ASDF
(due to lots of screenprints within the document i had to zip and pdf).

And for reference, you based this install on these drivers?

Eaglehawk:
I have tested this will 3.20(CD) to 3.30(web) and the document was written 3.20(CD) to 3.40(web). The link you provided was the one i used.

pantonious:
I have had nothing but problems with the AVStreamer driver but when I forced the new drivers it all worked (hence I thought of letting all know). It might work for some and not for others.

Re: DVICO Dual Digital Tuner Setup

Thanks for posting this, I followed the instructions and now I get 8 installed devices in device manager instead of the 6 I had previously. All seems good but the trouble I have is that when MCE comes out of standy I lose the second tuner, everything appears OK in device manager though.

I'm using the 3.40.03 drivers and I've tried replacing the bluebird2.sys driver with the one in the download section but it hasn't made a difference.

Another thing which might be related is that if I use the tuner selection tool from this site I get an error on launch along the lines of "no 2 compatible tuners found" and then it closes. This is even though MCE detects both tuners and can happily use them both (until I go into standby and resume). I downloaded a slighter later version from www.salloway.org and this worked but now I get a message along the lines of "this machine appears to contain cards for both analogue and digital, do you want to view the digital?". I've only got the dual fusion card, nothing else. Then when I hit yes it shows me that I have two tuners but they're both listed as Fusion BDA Tuners, shouldn't one of them be BDA and the other Bluebird USB?

I'm a bit confused and annoyed that these things don't work out of the box, there shouldn't be any need for these complicated installation procedures and 3rd party utilities. Has anybody got any advice for me please?

Thanks
Slink

Re: DVICO Dual Digital Tuner Setup

I thought the standby problem was a known issue...hmm...I don't use standby...

The MCE Tuner Priority, those messages with the later version is what I get. No issues really with those messages, seems normal. We should really update the version on this website...?

Re: DVICO Dual Digital Tuner Setup

Fantastic information.

Will try installing over the weekend as I am sick of the late nights trying to rectify.

I have one question that may be stupid. The fact that the USB drivers need to be installed do you need to connect the USB cable as I do not have the internal power cables connected. (I was told not required from the salesman)

Thanks

Mark

Re: DVICO Dual Digital Tuner Setup

you use the external OR the internal USB cable...not both...

the external is the best to use...
