Question HD on MCE not smooth. How to fix??

Hi Guys,

Have set up a new MCE computer with a DNTV Live! min i card.

Most working ok.

However, if I try to watch a High Definition channel, the picture is not smooth. Appears to slow down to something like 12 frames/second.

Standard definition is great. Can time shift in SD and still smooth.

Have all latest updates.

Running an MSI board, AMD Sempron 2400+, 1 gig ram, 120gig SATA drive, and an ATI Radeon 9250 card (128meg) thro VGA to a 106cm plasma TV.

Any ideas??

Get yourself a new Video card, the 9250 is not a DxVa card so it will slow things down. A 9550 is min in an ATI card...

Even a cheap Nvidia FX5200 will be fine, I am still using one in my system...

OK, thanks for that.

Having a quick look after a search, the 6600 based nVidias seem like the way to go, without getting too expensive. (wanna say keep under AUS$200)

Looking at a 128meg or 256meg based 6600 card, AGP.

Now, do all the 6600s have hardware decoders?

Any particular 6600s to steer clear of??

Have a DNTV Live Pro card on the way, for twin tuners. (incase that influences decission on card)

Any 6600 will do the job, if you use it for gaming as well, a GT would be nice....

Second card will not bother it, I use 3 different Tuners and a 2400 Sempron, with the FX5200 I have no problems recording 2 shows ( I use Webscheduler ) and watching 1 on a Plasma so you should be fine...
