Digital & Analog tuner in same system

All the talk about dual tuners got me wondering, is it possible to have a digital and analog tuner in the same system?

Or maybe it would make more sense to explain what I would be trying to achieve.

Digital tuner for free to air channels, another tuner to plug in a foxtel cable box.

Have I missed it, or am I correct in assuming you couldn't get a MCE box to change the chanel on a foxtel cable box?

I haven't tried to mix 'n' match, but I've read that if you want to run dual tuners, they need to be identical cards which I would assume excludes the analogue/digital mix.

Given your goal it might not be a problem, check out the 3rd post down by Brent here

Re: Digital & Analog tuner in same system

Hey MC,

I can't provide an absolute answer but it may be possible to run two digital cards (using the second as a capture card for your foxtel) but you are correct you won't be able to change the channels on your foxtel unless you buy one of the MCE learning remotes that have just been released to the market.

Cheers

Ben

Re: Digital & Analog tuner in same system

Hi Guys,

My experience is that you cant run foxtel through a digital card. Because it comes out of the box as an Analogue signal. I had a FusionHDTV DVB-T Plus that has A/V inputs for analogue that I thought would work however MCE wont reconize that it has A/V inputs. I tried everything and followed the instructions on their website but could only get it working with Terestial TV.

Re: Digital & Analog tuner in same system

Hi Kevin

I have the same problem and was just about to buy the:

http://www.averm.co.uk/avermedia/ave...r_dvbt771.asp#

With the intention to let the "Set to box" run through the S-Video In connection, and change channels on the box through the remote extention.

If I understand you correctly this is exactly what you have tried ??

Re: Digital & Analog tuner in same system

You can put HD card in with a Analogue card, this is how you get the radio working.

Hi Brentp

Since I'm a novice I think that I need a more detailed explanation to understand what you just wrote. :-\

Re: Digital & Analog tuner in same system

Hi,

Unfortunaltely you can only have Live TV working with a single source type.

eg. Analogue single or dual (both have to have be set to an input (from fox etc) or tuned to analog TV
Single or Dual Digital tuners

Analog and digital tuners cannot be used together for live TV, you cannot have analog connected to Fox and a digital card connected to digital TV working at the same time.

The reason for this is that MCE only has one list of the channel frequncies or whether the card/s are set to an input.

Hope this clears it up.

I have heard this may change is a future version.

We have a few people with fox digital who really want this to work.

Regards,

Anthony

Re: Digital & Analog tuner in same system

Thanks Anthony

I think that I understood you.

One of my friends accually have an "old" set-top that can handle DVB-S and has an extra slot for a CAM that decodes DVB-T. I think that this should do the trick. The MCE would have only one analog signal via RF, and i probarbly would have to change the channels with the set-top remote.

Could you feed the rf feed from an analog foxtel box (i think it can tune normal fta channels aswell one which has the fox channels on it) into a splitter and then feed it into two analog tv tuners?

Yes I tried all that and now have a Hauppauge TV PVR-150 MCE to pick up the Analogue signal from the foxtel box.

Re: Digital & Analog tuner in same system

Kevin,

Do you now have a Digital and Analogue tuner in your MCE box ? Digital for FTA and Analogue for Foxtel capture ?? Or did you just go with the 150-MCE on its own ?
