Cool Which tuner card are you using?

Several posts recently have asked which tuner card should I buy, and of course there is no real answer... we are generally all happy with our choice, but maybe to help prospective MCE2005 viewers, a general list of what we are all using might offer some help?

Hence this little poll....

As there are so many makes and models - I have just listed for this poll; Analogue and then all the Digital cards I could think of... I am not sure if I got them all, or if they all can be used in MCE, but its a start. Also because this poll can only allow 10 choices I had to combine differing offers from Hauppauge and Dvico....

Tick the box and enjoy the race....

Re: Which tuner card are you using?

I use a Dvico as my main MCE card and a Visionplus not setup with MCE but using Webscheduler. A second Visonplus will be purchased soon to fit inside my new case I am making.

I found WS easier for me to use, a second Visionplus will cure the scheduling overlaps.

We shall see how it all runs with 3 cards... :-)

Re: Which tuner card are you using?

I'm using a Nova-T, and i'm more than happy with it! Setup was painless, no stuffing around with DLL files or anything needed, and I'm picking up all the available digital channels including C7 HD. Picture quality is fantastic, and apparently it will work fine with dual tuners as well (but i'm lacking the funds to test that out :P)

Re: Which tuner card are you using?

I'm surprised at the people using analogue cards

For those that are...

Do you use analogue just to get the Foxtel signal to go through MCE?

Are you getting the IR Blasters to change channels on the Foxtel STB and schedule recordings?

Cheers

Re: Which tuner card are you using?

Hi, yes I can get 2 cards working fine under MCE, but I prefer to use my (now) 2 VisionPlus cards for recording only and te Dvico as the main TV card. I like WS, can sit my my desk in the other room and setup all my recording for the week.....

Re: Which tuner card are you using?

I think word of mouth is a main reason for the Dvico, plus the fact that you can
walk into most computer stores and there is always a Dvcio there ...

Re: Which tuner card are you using?

I currently have a Compro videomate DVB-T300. But im not that overly happy with it. No i can swap it over for free.

Is there divico fusion any better? like is it worth it? By worth it, i mean, its not gunna cost me much, just gotta drive into the city lol.

Some thing i hate is it takes like 5 seconds to swich channels, so i cant just flick past the channels seeing whats on... is it my card, or they all like that?

Re: Which tuner card are you using?

Some cards are notoriosly slow, while others are fast. ie the Averedia A16A, it generally changes channel in under a second. I believe this is because all digital tuner cards buffer video before it's displayed to the screen. Be aware that we're not alone as owners of digital STB also report slow channel changes so I think it really depends on the manufacturer on how 'slow' the change is

Cheers

Matt.

Re: Which tuner card are you using?

ok i understand.

So whos the fastest?

Another problem i forgot to tell you, is after the channel swaps, a No TV Siginal screen pops up for like 1 seconds, the audio stays, but the vidio goes off for a bit.

I have alot of troubbles lol

Re: Which tuner card are you using?

I have dual fusionhdtv plus cards, they take a good 1-2 secs to change channels (digital will never be as fast as analog it seems for switching channels). The quality of the image and stuff is great with these cards however there are inherrent MCE related driver problems.

As documented on this board the cards dont record when PC is in standby/hibernate in some instances.

There are other minor MCE issues to.

On a side note, if MS dont fix the slow video recovery from standby issue im gonna scream.
