Dvb-s2

I'm not sure if this is relevent over your side of the pond. But in the UK there are a few S2 cards that allow us to watch free view. I can't find any support for them!

Do they work with media centre or vista even. I have a dedicated Media centre for my TV and I would happily upgrade it to vista if i had to but none of the new cards admit to working in media centre and i don't really want to use the manufactures program, for 2 reasons, normally there pretty bad and secondly I use mirage and cretron (autonomic) to control the system remotly and that only works with MCE.

Does anybody now of any cards that support this or any work arounds to fool MCE into think a DVB-S2 card is really a tuner?

What sort of performance do you need to run these cards, can you throw 3 in machine without any problems or do they need a lot of processing?

Any comments on these cards welcomed as my dads just got a DVB-S2 decoder and i have always told him that MCE is better than his topfield!

Re: Dvb-s2

They don't work natively in Vista at the moment, although there is a program that can trick MCE into thinking that the DVB-S card is actually a DVB-T (and will then work in MCE). Not sure about dvb-s2 though.

Maybe there will be an announcement at CEDIA that will assist.

Re: Dvb-s2

DVB-S2 uses H.264 instead of MPEG2 & it's not supported in VMC yet.

Re: Dvb-s2

thanks for your replies.

Shame as i would hope that HDTV would be something enough people would be intrested in to get support from MCE and the card manufacturers.

Re: Dvb-s2

Yup, for H264 channels, no go in MCE, but the digital everywhere floppyDTV cards work great in mce for dvbs(non h264 channels). They are located in UK too.

http://www.digital-everywhere.com/en...sid=1187859689

You could use mce for dvbs and its included app(based on dvb viewer) to record dvbs2...then output that capture folder into mce for playback. Thats as close as you will get in mce.

In media portal, you can do both
