Tuning- OK with WinTV2000 but MC can't

Hi Everyone, Ive just joined so I hope this post is in the right place ?
i couldnt find any answers searching threads.
WE can see the TV transmission tower clearly on the mountain top 5kms away.
I have a standard TV aerial- it doesnt seem to have a booster (although i wouldnt really know) .
The signal is fine when run directly into standard TV.
I have a computer with a Hauppauge HVR-1100 TV tuner card run with Win XP Media CEnter Edition with updates for Version 2005. .
I run the antenna directly into the HVR-1100 tuner card.
The WinTV2000 program will pick up & tune all the stations perfectly with the roof TV antenna.
But Media Center will not pick up any.
Media Center will only pick up & tune with rabbit ears.
But the rabbit ears seem to drop out regularly- & loose signal when bumped slightly..
I want to know if I can ever run Media Centre through my roof aerial somehow & get a clear constant signal ?
Is this a common problem ?.
If so, how is it fixed ?
We have no access to expensive techos - we simply want to watch the tele-
Many thanks in advance for any response.

Re: Tuning- OK with WinTV2000 but MC can't

It sounds like you might need to attenuate (reduce) your signal slightly. Something like this from Jaycar is probably worth a try.

Maybe try updated drivers from Newmagic first.

Re: Tuning- OK with WinTV2000 but MC can't

Thanks heaps for the advice
I finally got around to ordering the signal Attenuator and it worked just fine for the most part
For Every station except channel 7 (no signal)
Also when I change a through a few stations MC goes blank
So I heard that I might need to load Rollup 2 (is that correct ?)
But I cant get it to load - just end up with this message...

"The update to Media Center was not successful. The computer will now be restarted and restored to the state it was in before the update. Please try the installation again, or contact your hardware manufacturer for assistance if the problem persists."

Ive tried to follow advice posted in Mr Vs old thread
http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/comm...54-post19.html
but some of it doesnt make sense to a non-techy like me.

Esp his lines
"KB891593 FAILED - reliant on KB904706(2) in windows\system32\quartz.dll and \dllcache\quartz.dll renamed to *.BACKUP ( landlocked?? what does this mean please ?????) but it came back!found KB904706 was back - uninstalled again - this time SUCCESS! "

" KB900325 FILE CORRUPT? D/L again from Microsoft... and took the KB900325 installer from the package... ( landlocked?? what does this mean please ????? ) this time SUCCESS.. restarting... and "
