PocketHDTV - Not tuning *any* channels in MCE

G'day,

I've noticed a lot of good work on this forum in getting numerous TV Tuners to work under MCE.

I've tried installing the Australian dll file that's been circulated and completed the registry hack - but to no avail....i still can't get any channels under MCE even though my tuner's software has no problem tuning all the channels.

I have a PocketHDTV which plugs into a USB2 port, and live in Sydney.

The frequencies that come up on my OEM software are:

Seven Digital - 177.500
Nine Digital - 191.500
Ten Digital - 219.500
ABC - 226.500
SBS Digital - 571.500
FTVguide - 578.500
D44 - 578.500

Any help, including a revised dll with these frequencies - greatly appreciated.

Trying to get this damn PocketHDTV to work under MCE has been consuming me for weeks.

Cheers
Bob

Hi Bob,

Are the drivers you are using, BDA?

Re: PocketHDTV - Not tuning *any* channels in MCE

Yep...

I got advice from Inventa (where i bought the PocketHDTV) as to how i have to install the BDA driver......

Apparently, if you make the mistake of installing the WDM driver (and then choose to install the BDA driver) it won't work.

So i've formatted the HD, and installed *only* the BDA driver.

MCE recognises a tuner exists, but when it comes to scanning the channels - it searches, but never finds a single channel.

I've tried everything - i've almost pulled all my hairs out!

Hi Bob,

Give this a go. Make sure you swap it out in the correct places in safe mode.

Cheers,
Arkay.

Re: PocketHDTV - Not tuning *any* channels in MCE

Bummer....

Still not finding any channels....

I wish it were just the reception, but the PocketHDTV finds and displays every single channel with the antenna setup i've got now - when i use its OEM software.

I am well and truly stumped!

Thanks for the help anyway.

Given the PocketHDTV is showing how useless it is - i might have to look for another DBV-T tuner.

Does anyone have a good quality tuner to recommend, which works well with MCE.

Cheers
Bob

Re: PocketHDTV - Not tuning *any* channels in MCE

Bob,

It's going to be something specific to that card and it's BDA drivers. The fact that you're not picking up anything at all leads me to think that it's the driver. Have you spoken to the vendor regarding using it in MCE?

Something else is wrong and if it works in their application it can't be reception. Equally it won't be the dll... You should at least get 2 or 3 channels even with the original.

I'd be hassling themanufacturer... If it comes with a BDA driver then you have every right to use it with any BDA capable software and they have to support it.

Hope you get it sorted..

Cheers,
Arkay.

Re: PocketHDTV - Not tuning *any* channels in MCE

Thanks for the advice Arkay.

I spoke to the manufacturer, and they said that the BDA drivers supplied ought to work fine.

He told me to format the computer and start everything from scratch - which is what i did.

Just sounds like they have never actually used MCE - and have never actually tested the product on a different operating system to XP.

I might take the computer in and ask them to look at the setup - because the website from which i bought the tuner expressly states that it works under MCE. I wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

In any case, is there a different tuner you recommend, in the event that what i've got is a lemon.

Re: PocketHDTV - Not tuning *any* channels in MCE

None in particular. People are having success with VisionPlus, DVICO Fusion, Avermedia A16a and the usb tuners available from www.digitalnow.com.au.

I'd stick with one of the above if you want to be sure of a successful outcome. The a16a comes in a few different flavours and some people are having a hard time with them. Others swear by them.

Cheers,
Arkay.

Re: PocketHDTV - Not tuning *any* channels in MCE

Hello Bob,
I have the same problem as you using there software. These are the things I have checked.
I have Windows XP SP2 2.4 GHZ
All the drivers are in the control Panel
External TV connection checked with TV confirmed antenna connection.
The unit works on friends laptop.
Been in touch with supplier he has advised me to make sure it's usb2 which it is.
Disconnect and reconnect from usb whilst program running, done.
The scanning Part seems to be greyed out.
It appears to not recognise the driver or it may conflict with something else.
Let me know how yopu went.
It definitely works on a laptop using same software.
Regards
Dennis
