Second tuner issue with TinyTwin

I continue to have issues with the second tuner disappearing on the TinyTwin tuner. Sometimes a reboot and run of the TV options setup sequence will bring it back. Others times it seems reboot, unplug and replugin tuner to USB port will do it (but then of course that could just be the reboot working on that occasion - impossible to know. Sometimes it will work fine for days. Then I'll find its happened again when MCE spits out an error when i ttries to record a second simultaneous show, or wants to change channel because it is scheduled to record something on another channel than I have on.

Any suggestions or similar experiences?

Re: Second tuner issue with TinyTwin

I had a thought on this myself to throw out there - the machine has in it a separate tuner - the original internal one that came with the computer - I believe it to be an older analog tuner. I don't use it, but was planning to eventually get around to setting it up as a third tuner. But I just read that no matter what I do I cant mix digital and analog tuners, so there goes that plan.

Could it be causing problems for the TinyTwin? Should I remove it? Ad if so, need to physically remove the card, or can I just deactivate it in Device Manager?

Just checked and it is a Hauppauge WINTV PVR PCI-II (26xxx)

It is not unusual for systems to lose contact with USB devices, particularly if not in use for a while or on resumption from various form of power states, this can be due to to all sorts of reasons (incl power management by the OS, poor USB2 implementation, poor cabling, failure to continuously and consistently supply 500mA @5V to the USB port, heating issue, etc).

If your the device works after unplugging it from the USB2 port and plugging it back in again (ie the OS re-initialises the device and reloads the firmware), I would say, most probably, there is a power supply issue, if you can try using a power hub that continuously delivers the required power, do that. You could also try in another USB2 port, or another PC to help identify the cause.

If all fails email support and we can arrange to have the device tested for you.

Re: Second tuner issue with TinyTwin

I think I've tried pretty much every USB port I have (about 6 on the back and 2 on the front of the machine). The power theory makes sense to me. There is not much else plugged into USB on the machine, but it does have a network adapter on USB, which I could imagine might be a bit of a power-sucker, so I wonder if that could be the issue. I think I will look into a powered hub and see how that goes.
