Problems recording - no deinterlacing and no padding

Hi,

I'm having a few problems recording with MCE 2005. For some reason, my TV tuner isn't deinterlacing Ten HD's 1080i signal, so it looks positively atrocious. Also, no matter what I set the "start recording before/after" time to, Media Center will always start recording on the dot and finish on the dot (so, at 9:30 ending at 10:30, instead of starting at 9:26 and ending at 10:40). Are there any solutions to these problems?

Re: Problems recording - no deinterlacing and no padding

1. Deinterlacing is done by the video card & the decoder - the tuner has nothing to do with it. Which video card & which decoder are you using?

2. Forget about trying to set soft padding to anything more than 4 minutes either side of a recording - Windows will simply reset it to the default if you do. Instead, choose advanced record & then change the "Stop" option from on time to 5, 10, 15, 30 minutes, etc. You can do that for any series recordings too.

You rarely need pre-padding (certainly not in prime time).

Re: Problems recording - no deinterlacing and no padding

Your tuner doesn't do the de-interlacing, it's the decoder that does it. So what decoder do you have?

Some decoders are worse than others de-interlacing HD channels (I hear nvidia purevideo is kinda bad at it).

edit: Beaten......

He he.

Purevideo is excellent at de-interlacing, it's progressive channels that it has troubles with.

Re: Problems recording - no deinterlacing and no padding

Well, it's one or the other

I haven't used 2005 for a long long time, so it's tough to recall.
