TinyTwin USB

I am using a PCI Single Tuner aswell as the USB Twin Tuner.

I installed the PCI Tuner, did a setup for it and it is working quite well. I then installed the USB Twin and ran the Tuner Extender program to install the USB Tuner with the existing Tuner. Rebooted the PC and went back into MCE.

I went into TV Signal Setup once more and it now shows the two tuners with tick boxes to select. However the TinyTwin does not work, if I select the PCI on it's own it works. If I select BOTH then the first channel I try works, hit record, change channel... nothing. I then tried setting up the TinyTwin on it's own with the PCI unticked. It will not pick up any Channels.

I plugged the Antenna cable from the TinyTwin into the TV and it deffinately has signal and it works perfect on the TV.

Anyone had issues setting up multiple TinyTwins??? or TinyTwin's as a secondary Tuner?

Cheers

A couple of things (which may be OK, but aren't clear to me). If you have installed the driver for the TinyTwin correctly, you should be able to see two tuners for it in MCE, not one, in addition to whatever else you have already installed in your PC.

The USB tuner require that you use a fully compliant USB2 port or it will not work correctly or none at all. USB2 ports must be delivering 500mA@5V. You might want to try a different USB2 port if not already done so.

To check that the TinyTwin is installed and working correctly you can check it with DNTV Live! in the first instance. Or remove your other card and try with MC on its own to eliminate the possibility that your registry has not been corrupted by attempting to use more than two tuners.

These devices have an extremely low failure rate, so It is unlikely that it is a hardware fault, but anything is possible of course.

If you are still having issues with the device, I suggest you contact support and we will get you to run some tests.

Cheers

Re: TinyTwin USB

I have installed DNTV Live!. When I do so, I can get the Tuner to work perfectly only my HD Channels flutter and do not work properly. I think tomorrow I will remove the PCI card out of the PC and see what happens. I will give a more detailed post tomorrow.

I am sure I have the right Driver, however I think my registry settings or how I am using the program I have is causing the problem. I think I need to install the USB device, get it working as 2 Tuners first. Unplug it, setup the PCI, then apply the USB registry settings.

The fact that the 2nd device I am installing has 2 Tuners rather than 1 it is pushing it over the limit of 2 because I am not disabling my PCI when I install the USB.

It is all really confusing for me actually as you can probably tell. What would be the best order for me to install my two devices? Also what would be the best way for me to Uninstall them from my registry? Just delete the keys?

Cheers for all your help.

Re: TinyTwin USB

beastytech,

You should not need to remove one tuner to install another. All tuners need to be present when you apply the registry hacks. In the past I seem to remember people having problems with drivers from different tuners interfering with each other or the OS not loading the correct drivers, have a look at which driver windows is installing for each tuner and if incorrect change them.

Craig.

Re: TinyTwin USB

Craig,

You were spot on mate, unfortunately I had fixed it before reading this post but what you just said was exactly right. Somehow when I had the PCI card installed successfully it was detecting the USB device as the wrong device. It appeared as a USB 2.0 Duel Tuner when it is not that model it is the TinyTwin. This is what I did.

a) Uninstalled the USB device from Device Manager
b) Deleted all Tuners in registry
c) Physically removed PCI Card
d) Booted up and installed USB Card solo (still got detected as wrong device)

At this point I was like ARGGGGHHH!!!! so i:

e) Put the PCI card back in and rebooted.

MAGICALLY! it all sorted itself out now, when it came back online (i left the USB plugged in) my PCI card had it's usual drivers setup for it which was fine. For some unknown (microsoft) reason it redected my USB card as a TinyTwin. I ran Media Center TV Signal Setup Wizard and it showed 3 TUNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ran the TV Tuner Extender Program to make them all accessible to MCE and BOOM, I am recording all 3 HD channels at the same time!!!!!!

Can't explain WHY this happened but I DON'T CARE!!! lol!

Thanks for all your help guys, you certainly pushed me in the right direction!
